Hi everybody, time for a quick introduction.
I'm a 38-year-old guy (38M) based in San Francisco, working in the tech industry. Remote work turned into my everyday reality, and just like plenty of others in this field, my activity level dropped off compared to how it used to be.
Back in college, 10 years ago, I was involved in sports on a regular basis and kept myself in reasonably good shape. Since then, things have slid the wrong way little by little. These days I'm sitting at roughly 200 lbs, my BMI is above 30, I'm parked in front of a screen all day, and food noise plus snacking have become a real struggle — much tougher to tune out than they once were.
Over the past year I've given the standard playbook a shot: logging calories, pushing protein higher, adding steps, improving sleep, cutting back on alcohol, and so on. A few of those do help, yet none of it has really held up over the long haul (aside from a movement phase).
I had worries about fertility problems, but after my son arrived and — thankfully — 1 more is on the way, I've recently begun researching GLP-1s and getting familiar with the various choices out there. Cost matters a lot to me, so I'm trying to figure out what genuinely works, what can be maintained, and how folks handle maintenance once the weight is off.
Something that likely sets me apart a little: I'm a data nerd. Bloodwork gets checked several times per year, I wear a smartwatch nearly 24/7, and I keep tabs on sleep, activity, and resting HR. Watching trends develop over time is genuinely enjoyable to me. Honestly, there are moments when I suspect I spend more hours staring at health dashboards than I do actually making my health better.
Mainly I'm here to pick up knowledge from those who've already traveled this path. Can't wait to read through things and chip in wherever I'm able!
Cheers,
Marko
