Increased appetite after Tirz injection?

For the past few weeks, I've been noticing something new with Tirz: on the day I take my shot, my hunger levels go up compared to usual. This hadn't happened to me before. It happens right after I inject.

Is anyone else dealing with this?

Tirzepatide’s half-life is around 5 days, which explains why this happens to certain individuals.

One option is split-dosing: take half of the weekly amount and inject roughly every 3.5 days. Another option is to inject on a shorter cycle — every 6 days or every 5 days — while lowering the dose.

You can see how much is in your system by using the free online plotter tool.

What dose are you on, and how long have you been at it? That should improve once you titrate up.
I don’t think titrating up is necessary for me — the following day is fine, and I’m fine even on the injection day itself. The only thing I notice is that hunger shows up in the afternoon of the day I take the injection. Also, I’m already at 15mg.

If it's genuinely getting to you, then I'd say follow what indolent suggested earlier. As for me, the appetite usually returns the day before my shot. I just accept it and take that opportunity to load up on extra protein.

Many in my rat group stayed on a 5 day cadence and used a reduced actual dose. That problem never hit us. (the majority are only maintaining at this point)

A few also threw in a very small amount of sema on a 7 day interval.

Nothing unusual there...on my own first day after pinning I barely notice anything, maybe some burps and overnight rumbling, then the food noise falls away the following day, and drops further on day three...after that it settles, and honestly by the fifth and sixth day the food noise starts creeping back up...the past 3-4 weeks I have been experimenting with a split dose and it suits me better. If I ever move off that, a 5 or 6 day spacing between doses is what I would try...good luck on your journey!... 👍 😎

Blood concentration typically reaches its maximum roughly 24 hours following a dose. That means the lowest point comes right before the next shot, then climbs again toward a peak about 24h afterward. Right after injecting, levels are still low, though they ought to be on the way up.

If the cause were the medication fading out, you would expect it to be worse before the next dose rather than after. And if nausea were the culprit as a side effect, it ought to peak 24 hours post-dose.

My speculation, and it is only speculation, is that this might be mild nausea while blood levels climb, since distinguishing that from hunger can be genuinely difficult at times. During a year on low dose ozempic, I dealt with both nausea and hunger; I was taking it to counter constant starvation after dropping 70kg without glps. Often I was hungry and nauseous simultaneously, or unable to separate the two, or I could settle the nausea with a small piece of chocolate or some sugared ginger.

Testing split doses to find out whether that helps is not difficult.

For me, splitting the dose was a total success. The negative effects disappeared, and my hunger stayed consistently under control.

I came across a post from someone dealing with the same problem — they shifted their injection to nighttime, right before bed, slept through it, and then woke up the following day with none of those symptoms.

That really does explain things. I may give it a shot. The effect tends to show up 2 hours or so after the shot, so I can understand why sleeping through that window would be useful.

Fingers crossed that does the trick for you! 🙂

i've always done my shot in the morning, since i've read about some folks having trouble sleeping after a dose, though thinking about it now, that doesn't really add up considering what we understand about how long it takes to reach peak blood levels & the half life.

usually i inject on weekends following a tough fasted cardio session, which also leaves me a bit less hungry for a couple hours afterward, but that's purely incidental.

I went through the same thing, and this is what helped me. I hope it helps you too, OP.

This comes up pretty often in what I've read.

When a drug has a 5-day half-life, that doesn't translate into it quitting on you right before the next shot is due. Once you've been dosing for a number of weeks, levels tend to level out for most people, so you get gentle rises and falls rather than wild up-and-down swings. That means pharmacokinetics by itself can't account for why hunger shows up on injection day.

So... I can't say for certain what causes it, but I also don't see it as something to worry about. For me, the aim was never to eliminate hunger completely. Feeling some hunger is normal and actually helps you hit the protein and nutrition your body requires. I'd take the appetite as a win and turn it into a solid protein day! 💪

A modest Reta dose partway through the week fixed the problems I was having as each week wore down. Every Friday I take 7.5mg Tirz, and every Tuesday I take 3mg Reta. Since I am a researcher, I would like to try reducing the Tirz a bit.

Yep!!! my injection day is always Monday... for the following 5 days I have no hunger, but Sunday rolls around and it carries over into Monday... (Mondays mean I have to battle it) and after that it goes away ....

Mine is also taken

My injection happens Monday morning too, yet strangely Monday leaves me without appetite. Around Saturday and Sunday I notice a bit of hunger, which honestly isn’t a problem.
