I'm crying quite a bit, huh!

I hadn't picked up on it earlier, mainly since I'm perimenopausal and my cycle runs every 3 weeks, so emotionally things have been...intense lately. Then a coworker offhandedly commented that I seem to be crying often (they didn't see it happen or anything, but I'm not usually a crier, so it pops up in "after work yesterday" anecdotes.) I brushed it off, thinking it was just premenstrual. But while cleaning and making things safe for kids—my not-daughter and not-granddaughter are coming over tomorrow—I caught myself crying without thinking while emptying the dishwasher.

So I reflected on it, and yeah; there's been a noticeable increase since mid-March. Overall, I'm pretty content with life; not depressed or in pain or in a rough spot; what sets me off runs the whole spectrum. Dear Evan Hansen. Pretty much any poem involving a spider. Yesterday, my boss gave me a division award and didn't rely on ChatGPT for his speech because he figured it would upset me, so he personally took the time to express his thoughts. Several Hamilton tracks. My late dad. A high school crush, who I'm definitely NOT into now but was back then, and now I bawl when "Iris" plays. Anything about my mom sort of maturing alongside me and her efforts to be decent. My closest friend, gone for about 3 years now. World War Z, nearly every section. TV series. Ads for children's hospitals. Wondering if my unbroken ancestral line would feel pride or shame in me. etc. etc. etc. etc, just going through my day with a tissue.

No advice needed; if it's perimeno, it's nothing; if it's reta, it'll probably lessen eventually, and my life isn't one where some crying messes anything up. But I recall a few folks mentioning mood swings on reta, and I might be experiencing some. Just wanted to toss my data-point into the mix.
What's your age? The perimenopause experience is wild. I started taking birth control to put an end to that emotional roller coaster. What finally pushed me over the edge was crying for 4 hours straight, and it felt like I had zero control over it. There are also days—and they still pop up sometimes—that are just really "meh," where I can't get excited about anything.

I wouldn't rule out that Reta might be involved, and obviously you're the expert on your own body. Still, peri is no small thing. And if you've dropped some pounds, my guess is that could make your hormones swing around even more than usual.

Hugs to you, and please look after yourself!

I've gone through the full cast audiobook 2 times. How did the submarine chapter strike you?

On a different note, what's your take on swans?

Joking aside, I hope you're feeling better soon.
The pilot and the skywatcher. That one's had me weeping for 2 decades. But when I reached the scene where the sergent discovers the turtle and begins murmuring to it, I completely fell apart.

I appreciate everyone's kindness. Honestly, I'm okay — it's not like I'm in nonstop agony or anything. And it isn't anhedonia either; I went through that for several months on tirz, though not as much while on tirz. That felt different — more like "nothing in particular appeals to me right now." This is more like "I'm going about my day thinking about work and my bike, then I read a poem about a spider and I'm sobbing on the couch, and then I get on my bike." That's why I figure if it's not perimeno, it's reta; this flavor of emotion seems chemical instead of situational.
Big warm hugs coming your way..

I realize advice isn't what you're after, but I've been through peri and then landed in depression with Meno.. so from that experience I can say hormones made a real difference for me. For a long stretch I couldn't access them, and I turned to other things instead; dark chocolate and cacao powder, whisked into warm milk, with cinnamon and nutmeg. Soy milk gets a strong recommendation from me because of the isoflavones,.. plus walks and reading beneath trees.

Sunlight and Vit D3. herbal teas with saffron. Every one of those gave me some relief, but HRT is what actually fixed it.

That said, what goes on in the world every day is horrific and the sadness is everywhere. Right now I feel like crying too. You are not alone, I am here too.

I'm 45, and this is only the beginning for me; the signals I've picked up on are a shorter cycle, a higher libido, and hair that looks slightly thinner. I figure I'll start HRT at some point, mainly because I'd like to preserve my hair, skin, bones, and lady-parts as they currently are.

Absolutely, every bit of that. Though honestly, those ideas sound so nice just as general activities — why on earth wasn't I doing them back at 20? Sign me up: dark chocolate and cacao powder with cinnamon and nutmeg stirred into warm soy milk, plus long sunny walks and reading beneath trees, and cold saffron tea once it's hot out. Yes, I'll take two.

I also really enjoy jasmine cold green tea in my water bottle. Ito-en produces ones that dissolve in cold water..

Is there anyone who has introduced peptides to counter the anhedonia caused by reta or tirz? Are there any that could be effective for that?

Absolutely! HRT rescued me from every pointless perimenopause symptom: night sweats, constant bleeding, and inexplicable sorrow. While I was screening my new patients, the ones using HRT seemed to never age. I made up my mind to do the same as them, even with the warnings about negative coronary artery effects. These days, HRT belongs in my longevity regimen for my bones, my skin, my hair, my brain, my IQ!

Alright, this is the post that finally convinced me — Monday I'm ringing my doctor and telling them: fine, let's go ahead with it.

My OB/GYN writes me bio identical HRT — estradiol plus Prometrium — and goes over and renews those prescriptions once a year.

I've gone through the full cast audiobook 2 times. How did the submarine chapter strike you?

On a different note, what's your take on swans?

Joking aside, I hope you're feeling better soon.

Quick note: in case you end up with an HRT prescription (fingers crossed that happens!), be aware there's been an absurd shortage — national, maybe worldwide — of estradiol. Why? The FDA pulled the black box warning (something that was loooonggggg overdue), and over the past few years way more women have caught on that it's both safe and effective.

So all of us are bouncing between pharmacies just to make sure we can actually get our supply each time we re-order. And like plenty of women have grumbled: a drug for men would never face this kind of problem.

Wow, that happened pretty recently as well. Less than 1 year ago. I appreciate you telling us. It's reassuring to hear that this is more or less safe.
