Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks? After lurking and freaking about crypto I finally took the first two steps. Set up a Coinbase account successfully, automatically converted to USDC then setup a Kraken wallet to receive the funds after the obligatory wait. Whew! Feel like part of the hard part is over.

SO...any next advice for a newbie and old person? Talk slowly, you know how we Geezers are. 😂 Immediate need: can someone explain "gas money" better and how/at what point I convert some of that USDC to that, and why? Thanks!
 
glad you figured it out! I finally got it like 2 weeks ago and the learning process made me feel old and dumb, but very satisfying once you get it figured!

Have you actually made a buy yet? I'm gonna need alcohol before I pull that trigger, lol
 
Oh, just another aside for any fellow travelers, I first TRIED to set up a Kraken account via the Kraken app (not the same as Kraken wallet app). It would NOT take my ID, must have photographed it 10 times, tried both DL and Passport, nope. Frustrated I uninstalled that and went to Coinbase instead - that was absolutely seamless. Simple.

I have made a buy! it hasn't arrived yet but I feel confident it will. I've been relying on paypal and telegram wallet and the crypto has really opened up the number of vendors I can deal with now. I resisted but am glad I (kind of) now have crypto capabilities. I used coinbase and exodus.
 
congratulations!! welcome to the fold brother! I'm same as you very hesitant towards crypto but wanted to have full access to all the different vendors. took me a couple attempts and alot of reading but after 2 weeks made my first crypto buy. AI helped alot also 🙂 what's that saying? necessity is the mother of invention?
