Hypochondriac seeking reassurance before making the switch

Hi everyone, I just joined this forum and have picked up a huge amount already, so thanks to each of you for what you share! My rats are in week 1 of Reta (1.75mg) and things have gone well so far, at least as well as anyone could hope for in 1 week. Because I'm new and most people won't bother reading my intro, here's a quick rundown on my rats. They're lean, energetic, and in good health, but they picked up some extra padding during COVID that has stuck around. Their first dose came from a well-known US distributor (a reseller) that, like most of them, tacks on well over 100% in markup. For 1 10mg vial, I'm paying what a full kit from vendors here would cost me. What I get for that is a ton of sterility testing, COAS, control batch details, and so on for my rats, which puts my mind at ease. Still, those prices aren't something I can keep up with, which is how I ended up here. Given how fast my rats are dropping weight with their current activity level, I expect a 1 month ramp-up, a 2-3 month middle stretch, and then 1 month tapering down. At the prices some vendors are offering, that's completely doable, and I'd likely need exactly 10 10mg vials for my rats. There's just one issue... I'm a hyperchondriac. Not the everyday "Oh I hope this isn't ____" kind, but a clinically diagnosed hypochondriac. One thing that really gets to me about buying straight from suppliers in China is worrying about sterility and what it could mean for my rats' health if I... well.... Buy from China. I realize most US distr are also sourcing from China and reselling, but I still can't shake the fear that something goes wrong and my rats get sick. Based on what I've read on these forums, I believe I've found a supplier I'm 90% comfortable with, but I can't find any sterility testing for them, only purity. I know there's always risk involved, but can you all help me get past the last 10% of hesitation? Thank you!
 
Since this isn't pharma, nobody is in a position to promise you anything — such a promise simply doesn't exist.

My take: if you put in the legwork, there are vendor discussion threads here to work through. Pick sellers who have a LOT of followers, at least 4-5 k, with solid reviews, who aren't fresh arrivals (the number of newcomers popping up amazes me — I'd never buy from them), and who at minimum demonstrate some testing effort (whether it's trustworthy, or whether the kit you receive is the one that got tested, is something nobody truly knows). Filter on those points and you can be about as safe as it gets. (There's probably more, that's just off the top of my head.) Oh, and consider joining a testing group.

Still, problems are very rare, and whenever one does happen, it explodes everywhere and people spread the word fast.

Occasionally a vial contains other peps, or nothing pep-related at all. Rare, though.

That said, you've already gone through a reseller, so this next step isn't much of a leap. It's the same product. Possibly even out of the same factory — plenty of them use identical vial tops, lol. ;-)
 
Those same concerns cross my mind too. My take is that if you dig into the vendor and check the reviews posted here, you can reach a point where you feel confident. That is exactly how it went for me. Best of luck as you look into it.
 
The site gives you plenty of tools to check out a seller decently. And as other folks mentioned, when a seller messes up, word travels fast. I do notice gripes about delivery problems and folks getting ripped off by impostor sellers posing as legit ones, yet posts about poor-quality product don't come up much. I'm new around here, but I've been reading and scanning a great deal daily. I haven't even come across a recent report of bad product. So it does look uncommon.

If you put in the effort to vet a seller and still feel uneasy, gray may simply not suit you. Then you either have to drop it or pay more to have it tested properly.
