How do I get rid of the 'no source discussion' next to my name?

Sometimes it is best to slow down and read the tea leaves-

In some cases the answers are less cryptic.

The guy who made the rules did, in fact, tell you what your potential issues were.

P.S. If you're running into issues with certain words and phrases, the problem is what you are trying to post, not the restricted words and phrases.

The last message I posted that I had to spend 10 minutes trying to figure out what I'd done wrong was this:

Definitely been lurking for at least 4 months, but I'd be shocked if I joined more than a couple months ago.

I don't like the idea of flooding the forum with posts but it's understandable that the mods want to get an idea of who ppl are before taking the training wheels off them.

Please tell me what the content was that was so problematic?

Btw, what I posted is identical to the message I was getting denied, except for the use of "flooding" instead of the original "tinned meat product-ing" that turned out to be flagging the bot.

There's nothing wrong with having an imperfect tool that tries to keep the bots & scammers out. I appreciate it.

But I can assure you, I've honestly only been trying to engage in conversations whilst sticking to the rules of new users.

Yeah, that doesn't seem right. May be something for @ZippityDooDah to look at. Unless you broke some rules in the past and got put in the doghouse for some reason, you should have advanced awhile ago. The system is one of those things where 'its the worst system except for every other system out there'. In other words, its not perfect and its a PIA sometimes, but its better than any of the alternatives.

Mostly I don't care, except when I want to post a follow-up to something and it takes 10 hours before I can post again. I have full clearance on all the other forums I use, so this forum, that used to be my fave, is now relegated to the back-seat. The other thing I would like to comment on is the Vendors, as I have tons of experience with many, but alas, no imparting any wisdom there. Enough folks are doing that, anyway. Cheers!

My response prior to this one was constantly getting blocked, but I finally managed to post something almost identical. I just had to keep replacing words until I found out it was the word most closely associated with a famous tinned meat product that was getting flagged. I completely understand the need for the banner!

It's a brilliant system actually -- kind of an IQ test. Just another way to slow down the inane posts by clueless dweebs who annoy us all ;-)

I think you found a great work around with the word "flooding"; Probably with Mod experience, they learn over time to make certain terms trigger the bot.

"Tinned meat product-ing" is a brilliant workaround too BTW 🙂

When i joined nearly two months ago i found it bewildering that I couldnt talk sources, but in that two months i was forced to read and read some more and educate myself up to a somewhat decent standard.

If it wasnt this way i dont think i would be as "read up" as i am nowadays. I must have read every thread on here, some of them multiple times. It's not rocket science but it is easy to make mistakes or/and lose your hard earned cash.

Patience is key and it was certainly worth the wait. Put in the time 👍🏻

I would guess it was your abbreviation of ppl. Lots of 3 letter vendors and the bot may have thought you were talking about a vendor.

You'll notice a LOT of posts are from noobs as some of us learned what we needed and don't engage as much anymore...but we lurk in the shadows...🫡🥸

The sad thing is they could have learned most of what they needed by reading more, posting less.

🙋‍♀️ That would be me!

I will keep encouraging everyone to search and read for themselves, helping them move from begging for spoon-feeding to building their own basic learning skills.

I appreciate Zip's rules. I read another forum that is loaded with new users. None if them have ever found or used Google and all just can't figure out how to break their 5 month plateau. GLP1s are magic pills where you don't need to create a calorie deficit or exercise.

I spend a crazy amount of time reading here and enjoy the deeper content. Thanks Zip.

That's a good point, regarding not letting ppl know the flagged language.

I'm going to have to stand up for my post attempts though. My response prior to this one was constantly getting blocked, but I finally managed to post something almost identical. I just had to keep replacing words until I found out it was the word most closely associated with a famous tinned meat product that was getting flagged. I completely understand the need for the banner! It's a good idea! But when almost every response I write requires multiple attempts in order to find the random word that the bot doesn't like, it gets old, fast.

I really do want to get involved in more conversations but I often have to give up and instead just give a thumbs up.

Same for me and i m not fluent in english. Sometines i really don't understand why a specific Word Is not allowed, but that' the game, i agree with It, and finding the One Word that was responsible of my responses getting blocked make me kind of proud 😅

That's not the way it works anymore. They don't want to read, research or search. It's just give me what I want attitudes anymore. Like the everyone gets a trophy deal, even though some excelled.

I'd be quite delighted if the first reply to a new thread for a much-discussed topic were always "search for existing answers".

The second through tenth reply also. Especially when the respondents haven't read much themselves, except on Instagram reels or whatever.

I've tried a few times to link to a recent thread that is the exact same topic. But it is always the regulars here who reply to the new thread as if they weren't already on the older one too! 🤪

Hear hear!

There are only a few of us diehards repeating 'search before asking’ -- let’s get more of you to jump in and help out!

Walking away sheepishly...

I am newish here & sometimes feel bad saying that because I haven't yet earned my stripes and don't want to come off like I'm a big man on campus because I'm actually just a nerdy freshman LOL!

(But in the future I will at least attempt to link to an appropriate thread if I'm aware of one and add in "Search button is your best friend.")

And I appreciate all of you who say "Search!" because it helps keep the forum clean and low on repetition. Cheers to the OGs!

Pox on them! 😈

I think a lot of these new threads are a result of trying to fit in to a party where you do not know anyone. When you are new and try to think of a way to interact with the community it is often something that has been asked before, or in many cases, ad nauseum..

I try to take the new people posts with a grain of salt, they are limited to some degree and trying to "break the ice".

many times people mess with you for reviving an old thread as much as creating a new one, kind of a catch-22

I get it.. many of the posts are just laziness and honestly scary.

At any given time there are 2x as many guests as members, so some lurk for a while and get to know before joining. Others come and join straight away.. those are likely more challenging.

I see it like a video game, we were all noobs once, and you never know who joins.. they might be massively more knowledgeable and just found us.

Overall I think the community is welcoming, even when sometimes it is hard.

As mentioned in the New Member Posting Guide, violations of forum rules including mentioning or discussing sources while still bearing the No Source Discussion tag results in posting limitations being extended, which is the situation here.

99% of members figure it out on their own, and those are usually the ones who took a couple of minutes to read the various resources that explain it all.

Honestly….searching is faster than posting a question and waiting for a response 😆. I’m impatient that way lol. Works well for me generally….

Yeah, it also can lead to a serendipitous little journey that leads from one post to another to another thread that provides brand new information that you didn't even know to ask about...

Haha it doesn’t bother me anymore as I’m not here enough to advance any time soon. I just come here to learn
