If you've got a home gym, I'd really like to see photos of it. I'm also curious whether anyone has managed to insulate a garage door well enough that it stays cool during summer. And what got you started on building your own home gym? In my case, the reason was that I was working 14 hours a day, six days a week, the nearest gym was 30 minutes away, and I had two kids who were in their early teens back then. I didn't want to give up even more time with them just to work out. My son and his friends hang out in there a lot, especially over summer break, but the daytime heat is rough and they typically wait till late at night when my wife and I are trying to sleep. lol.

A ton of equipment is squeezed into a compact area of mine. There are 2 3x3 racks — 1 serves as a functional trainer while the other is used for lifting. For lighter work I've got Dumbells up to 50, and Eisenlinks handle the heavier loads. A Rogue Westside Reverse Hyper is in the mix too, along with an Eliptical and a Treadmill that aren't shown. A leg developer is something I'd really like to add, but the Dialed Motion/Rep collaboration releasing in the fall is what I'm holding out for. (Also pictured, wife's striper pole 😛).

I went with a minisplit setup — they're great and won't break the bank.

Simple to put in and inexpensive- the seer rating is very high and you can run it "as needed".

I'm keeping an eye on this thread. My own setup is currently a work in progress. In 3 weeks, I'll share my post with you all. Fingers crossed.

When you switch it on, does it need a while before the room gets cool, or do you just leave it running at one temperature all the time?

Mine sits in the office upstairs, sandwiched between 2 attics..

If I want, it reaches 65 degrees within 20-30 minutes.. there's also a "dry" mode that pulls all the humidity out of the room while cooling at the same time.. works insanely well in Texas heat..

Leaving it running is fairly inexpensive too..

My setup at home isn't anything fancy—just a multi weight set and an elliptical machine, both kept in the garage. Since there's no climate control out there, during hot stretches like the recent ones (100+ Degrees) I get my workouts done in the early morning, with a fan placed in front of me and another behind. When it's cold, I shut the garage door and put on sweats along with a beanie cap. On top of that, I typically take the dog out for a walk covering a couple of miles each day.

From what I can see in your photos, your garage door has better insulation than what I have. I went with that bubble wrap with a tinfoil appearance, advertised as a heat barrier, and gave it a shot. It made a big difference, but the space still gets far too hot. I keep thinking about tearing the garage door out and putting up an insulated wall instead. Lol I need to get an elliptical or bike I just can’t decide on what one I want and then I try to find it on marketplace before buying new

A split unit for my garage would be nice, but I'm too cheap to go that route. My elliptical came from FB Marketplace for $20, and the weight set was $299 from Walmart on a Black Friday deal—normally $499.

A soda machine that's drawing power is essentially a 300w space heater. The energy consumption on those is ridiculous, and all that warmth gets dumped into your room through the condenser coils.

Mini fridges are no different. If it's refrigerated and lacks decent insulation, it'll be running nonstop chasing its set temperature.
