My dad began taking ozempic a month ago. His initial pen cost 225$, with each dose at 0.25mg.

I just came across a piece about a generic version of ozempic in canada that might bring down the price of the official product somewhat.

Canada's system is a mystery to me. Down here in the US, though, a drug's patent can lapse and still be shielded by an entire web of regulations and statutes that keep big pharma's profits intact. Consumers get the short end, but supposedly that's what we trade for innovation.

In India, semaglutide's patent ran out in March 2026, and the generic makers there had been preparing for production in a big way. Canada's timeline is anyone's guess.
