Hair thinning in women - what actually helps?

once every 12-14 days? That is impressive. I go about 5 and most people are shocked. Greasy hair is not an issue for you? Since I started working out regularly, more frequent washing has become necessary for me
My hair goes 3 weeks between washes. Honestly, it looks no different than on the day it was freshly washed. Because my hair is very long and very thick, washing and drying it is a big job. There's no greasiness or anything like that, and when I tell people it's been 3 weeks since I washed it, they're shocked - they can't believe it looks the same as when it was washed. I suppose that makes me lucky?

Yes, haha, every last bit of the fun! My ferritin came in at 39, and at that point I was completely wiped out, dealing with brain fog, feeling weak, losing hair, and so on. Following the protocol, I've been taking the maximum dose and still haven't gotten a chance to get retested. A flu plus a sinus infection set me back, so I have to let all of that fully resolve first, otherwise the inflammation will throw the numbers off. The exhaustion has eased somewhat and the brain fog is a little better, but the hair shedding is still a struggle. At 47, my hormones are beginning to act up as well. Nothing has come of any of the topical hair products I've tried (shampoo, topical AHK-Cu alongside GHK-Cu serum, and the like) - zero results. I've also been doing KLOW subQ for several months now, and the only change I notice is in my skin, not my hair. Whether getting ferritin up will finally do the trick, only time will tell... It's a long road ahead for me...
When I looked into it, I noticed my Ferritin hasn't been tested for several years - only Folate was done. That's awful!! Hopefully things have improved for you by now!! I haven't given any of the spicy options a try yet. Needles are still a problem for me all these months later, so I'm not up for that yet, ha ha. Have you brought up HRT with your Dr? Should those dreaded hot flashes start, it might be worth asking about. Perhaps it could be of help to you as well? I gave GHK=cu a go, and I've just picked up some AhK-cu (injection quality) - my plan is only to mix it into a serum. Collagen goes into my protein shake as well. I hope you come across something that works! If I do, I'll pass it along 🙂

You really are extremely fortunate!!

Wishing you luck in finding something that works for you as well! Right now I'm trying every option I can think of to see which one sticks, yet the shedding continues at full force. HRT is something I still haven't moved toward. Instead, I'm attempting to bring my hormones up through supplements, a method that has helped me in the past. Kisspeptin was another thing I gave a shot, though it's possible my dose was too low. Trying it again is something I might do. As far as needles go, my recommendation is 31G, injected into the glutes - there's no pain whatsoever. Making KLOw painless just takes some added KPV. That first KLOW injection hurt a lot, so I figured out that more dilution plus added KPV solves it. With any luck, you'll work up the nerve to pin. It's not nearly as rough as it sounds. Needles used to terrify me, and now I'm totally relaxed about them. My starting point was a 27G in the belly, and it was painful! That's something I'd advise against completely. Best of luck on your journey, and please keep us posted about how it goes. I'm hoping to hear some positive news from you!

Hmm. So is the warning about not applying it down there, or about keeping it away from your pets? If it's the pet thing, then what are we even doing in this thread.

Just wondering out loud
For cats and dogs, it can be lethal. Cats in particular - if even a minuscule amount transfers from your pillowcase onto their coat, it may mean a trip to the emergency vet.

27g in the belly, wow, that must have hurt!! Was that a spicy one or glp? I came across 33g 4mm, and I start with ice (lower belly, because the thighs are painful) plus headphones playing a calming song since I'm still such a baby about it. Bruising happens really easily for me as well.

The natural methods are preferred, but all options are open to consideration.

1) I was thinking minoxidil

This has happened to me as well, and there's a positive side: your hair can come back 🙂

Here's the catch with Minoxidil — once you quit it, any regrowth you got during use is lost right away.

Approaches that don't involve medication:

Rosemary oil - has clinical proof behind it

Red light therapy - Hooga is the brand I'd suggest, and pick the wrap-around style. It works on any part of your body.

Add a Keratin supplement with biotin. Hair is literally built from keratin, so supply your body with what it requires to produce it. You'll likely see your nails become much stronger and healthier too.

One more thing — I'd point you toward Mary Ruth's supplements

My first stack was kisspeptin, DSIP, CJC and AOD... nothing spicy, yet it still stung simply because the belly area is so tender. For KLOW I gave the thigh a shot, but that ached badly for a couple of days... Eventually, thankfully, I landed on something that works! Tulirz came later, using a 31g pen, so it's not a big issue - for that one I inject into my love handle, though since those are disappearing I may need to shift it to the glute too.

My weight went from 245lb down to 165lb. Honestly, the first stretch of loss came off faster than it should have, and I shed a massive amount of hair because of it. The drop leveled out starting early this year and now it's crawling along, but in the beginning my hair showed no signs of coming back.

Roughly 5 months back I began a daily collagen powder supplement each morning. The reason my doctor pointed me toward Type II was joint support, since early onset arthritis runs in my family. After reading up on it, I went with a combined Type I, II & III instead. The outcome has been amazing for both my skin and my hair. By the 10-12 week mark, every one of the little bald spots had grown back in and my hairline was fully restored. Right now I've got a ridiculous amount of baby hair coming through, but it is growing and mixing in pretty quickly.

I made the switch to ORIBE shampoo and conditioner, and it did make a difference. The price is outrageous, though. Best to hold out for black Friday deals. On top of that, I gave minoxidol a try. It works like INSANITY. After only a handful of uses, I had a ton of hair growing back. I'm not consistent with it at all. These days I only reach for it for two or three days whenever I notice the scalp/pink showing through. And a while back, someone else shared that the hair regrows as soon as the weight loss stops - so that could be a factor too.

I wasn't aware that Tirz could have an effect in the glute area as well — I figured there were just certain spots where it does its thing. That said, I might be mistaken.

That's a fair question. My guess is it makes no difference, though I can't be certain....

Using Nizoral shampoo (the generic version is Ketzonale) on a consistent basis may cut down on shedding. You can find Nizoral 1% on the shelves at my local Target and Walmart. I also have a 2% prescription version that I use for dandruff. While this shampoo is sold as a dandruff treatment, it can also help keep the hair you already have.

If it's doing the job and you've got the results to show for it, that's what counts! 🙂

Has it been effective in your case? I also have a prescription version, and honestly I didn't see much of an improvement from it. From what I understand, it gets prescribed for dermatitis as well.

In my experience, it's made a modest yet meaningful difference when it comes to cutting down on shedding. That said, I haven't seen it do anything for new growth or regrowth. And yes, you're right - I believe it gets prescribed for various scalp conditions, dermatitis included.

Here you go! 😉

Pets can end up on the very same spots our heads rest on - couches, beds, pillows, towels, and even hats or hoodies. On top of that, since people often run their hands through their hair, the toxic substance passes to animals fairly easily.

Wow… going 3 days would be a win for me. My hair is really fine and my scalp gets oily. It reaches down to my butt, which makes things tough since washing, drying and styling it is a whole process.

Honestly, this is one of the biggest reasons I don't exercise on a regular basis.
