Hello everyone, I'm Irish. I began my glp-1 journey in January of this year, and for the first time in decades I feel like my weight is under control — and I'm really enjoying it!

Pixel, welcome — I've only been around for a few days myself. Before long I'll be beginning a fresh path as well, using retatrutide. Ozempic 1mg didn't do much for me, and mounjaro's outrageous cost was out of reach, so in a few weeks, once it arrives, I'll give retatrutide a go. Fingers crossed that the seasoned folks on this forum can offer guidance and support along the way.
Nice one! GLP-1s have done the same for me when it comes to keeping my weight in check. I stopped taking them not long ago and I'm finding it hard once more, which is what led me to start exploring other options.Pixel-pocket said:

What was your experience when you stopped taking them? I'm still very new to this, and my hope is to taper off gradually, but from what you're saying, that may not be realistic :-((LazyEscutcheon said:

I'm not sure I'd tell anyone to do what I did. When my insurance switched at the start of the year, I'd already stockpiled enough by refilling at the earliest allowed date that I think I had close to 2 months left, though all of it was the 2.4mg max-strength injections. So I simply stretched out the intervals. At first it was 10 days instead of 7, after that a full 2 weeks for a few rounds, and so on. By the end, my final dose came 3 whole weeks after the one before it.Jilla said:

When you compare it to before starting the glp1, did hunger or food noise get any worse? My concern is that tirzepatide could make me less sensitive to those signals, so if I stop taking it they might come back stronger.LazyEscutcheon said:

Once the effect faded between doses during those longer gaps, the food noise was unmistakable. I can't say I had any real side effects, but that hunger swinging up and down wasn't great, and I keep wondering whether tapering the dose down while keeping the shots more frequent would have helped me adjust back to the food noise more smoothly.
Nope, it hasn't gotten any worse. Some days are good, some are bad, but that pattern existed beforehand too. My only wish is for it to be gone, which is the reason I'm restarting the glp1.Jilla said:

For many individuals, this is a medication they will need long-term. I believe that holds especially true for those who have battled with it for their entire life, or at least a significant portion. Once I reach that stage, my plan is to give it a try, while staying ready to resume treatment if it becomes necessary.Jilla said:

By "looking for alternatives," are you referring to options other than glp-1 medications?LazyEscutcheon said:

Oh, my apologies for the mix-up. What I was trying to say is that my insurance no longer covers the prescription, so I'm currently looking into what alternatives are out there.Pixel-pocket said:

Yeah, going that route makes sense to me. I spent 2 years dieting and dropping a lot of weight, only to put every bit of it back on over the following 2 years, and honestly that is just awful. That said, I do tend to eat when I'm stressed, so instead of taking it continuously, I might just rely on it through the stressful stretches.moodymama76 said:
