Getting dizzy on standing? Could it be low blood pressure?

This has been going on with me for years. I blamed it on carrying extra weight plus the Texas heat, but after I dropped all the weight it actually became far worse. It hits when I stand up from the couch, or when I climb out of the hot tub at the gym. It only ever happens if I was curled up first and then straightened out, since that's the way I sit both on the couch and in the hot tub.

Did you ever get a diagnosis for this? I've been dealing with the same thing for years!!

Not yet. I've got a doctor's appointment booked for September, and the reason I'm holding off until then is that I want my cholesterol checked after 6-7 weeks without cigarettes, at a healthy weight, and with a sensible amount of exercise under my belt. That way, either the results come back normal and he stops pushing statins on me, or they don't and I stop arguing against statins before I've genuinely given lifestyle changes a fair shot. Until that appointment, I'm avoiding him.

I bet all your results come back fine and you won't need to start any medication! Have you had any testing done after the weight loss? At this point things ought to look a lot improved! Which workouts have you given a shot? Now that the heat is here I've finally gotten into swimming laps, though earlier on I did a bit of yoga, the recumbent bike and a vibration plate. You just do whatever you're able to, ha ha. I'm due for my yearly exam as well but ugh

The dizzy spells are still with me (I know I've got low bp, though not constantly super low)

Every now and then, when I stand up after lying on a couch or bed, I get a sudden spell of dizziness and feel really light headed, and I have to sit down again briefly. What's odd is that this never occurs when I first get out of bed in the morning.

This is definitely something new for me, and I'm unsure whether it's from the reta itself or possibly my diet (more of an indirect factor).

I haven't really seen this discussed much, and searching didn't turn up much either.

I was wondering if any of the knowledgeable folks here had any ideas, or if there's anything I should be adding to my diet or improving to prevent it.
My BP was already on the low side back when I was obese, and my resting heart rate has always run high. These days my BP has dropped even further, while my resting heart rate has climbed even more. Before rising, I now swing my arms and legs around and squirm a bit—my dogs clearly think I've lost it. During a recent cardiologist visit, the highest reading they could get from me was 87/57, and they seemed stumped. The cardiologist told me to double up on water and electrolytes, which has made a difference. When I skip my electrolytes, the symptoms hit me harder.

If only that were true! I joined a gym that has a pool, located 4 miles from me, and I also picked up a bike so I can ride there and back several times each week. The bike is fantastic; since I don't drive, my usual ways to get around are walking, using a razor scooter, or taking Lyft. With the bike, I can cover many more miles, and as a bonus my butt got firmer and I got a tan!

At 445lbs I was taking Lisinopril because my blood pressure was high. These days I weigh 210lbs, I've stopped the BP medication, and every so often I get extremely dizzy, with my vision going grey and tunnel-like, typically right after I stand up following heavy lifting at the gym. Once it starts, I go straight down onto my knees and lower my head so I don't faint. In my case, the cause is low blood pressure. My readings now tend to be 85/50. A doctor's visit is something I need.
Why haven't you scheduled that appointment yet?

You're spot on about electrolytes. Turns out I was overdoing it with water in an effort to lose weight, and I ended up peeing out all my electrolytes. Now I mix half a packet of Liquid IV into a Gatorade bottle and drink that once a day. I only use half because each packet has 500mg, and my last BT showed low sodium. I've got another BT coming up in a couple weeks, so we'll see what the results say. Since starting the Liquid IV not long ago, I've been feeling better.
