Welp......

Zelle has been my go-to, but I wanted more choices, so I've made the move into crypto!

Opened a Coinbase account and used a debit card to pick up a modest amount of BTC. A bit scary, yet exciting at the same time! Every small obstacle involved in getting BTC over to the vendor (such as the address that's exactly 40 characters and the amount precise to 8 decimal points — thank goodness for copy and paste) was cleared without much trouble. It's not a one-click purchase, but it's VERY achievable if you're still hesitating!

Nice work. I recall that stage too. And I recall that BTC can sometimes lag behind stablecoins such as USDC, USDT, and PYUSD. Still, because BTC runs on its own network, it's fairly foolproof.

All of the little hoops sending BTC to the vendor (like the exact 40 character address and exact amount to 8 decimal points thank god for cut and paste) were hurdled with little resistance.

The exchange where your crypto purchase happened, with KYC verification completed, is Coinbase.

Before you send anything to the vendor, be sure you follow through with the next step: move the crypto into a self-custody wallet (Exodus, Phantom, Trust, etc.).

Not long ago I made my very first crypto buy and I was pretty anxious about it. Someone advised me to pick up Solana to cover "gas". I went with 25 dollars worth, and that first transaction only burned 6 cents worth. 🤣 Looks like my gas might last a lifetime.

Compared to that other kind of gas, this is a huge improvement. 😅

I'm in the same boat as you. My goal right now is just to steer clear of tg, though deep down I suspect ending up there is only a matter of time. I wish there were more grey options available on the pages. Not because it's any safer, mind you. It's just that it feels like less of a hassle than stacy addressing me as baby or love, with no way of knowing whether the order will even arrive.

I've been using Zelle but want to expand my options so I've gone crypto!

Good stuff! There's always a bit of a knot in your stomach with that initial transfer. It definitely becomes less stressful over time.

You're making solid progress.

A few of the better TG groups I belong to allow a test transfer first, so you can confirm it lands in the right spot, and then they add it onto your balance. One of the group owners went as far as offering $2 to people, letting them test their wallets without risking any big $$$. Really cool!

Great!....Right, just be sure the crypto you send to a vendor comes from a wallet.... 👍
Time and again, it turns out that many folks only grasp this once their KYC exchange account gets locked.

On KYC exchanges -- the places where most of us first buy crypto -- identity verification is usually required. A few of them do provide an exchange wallet, and while sending straight to a vendor is technically possible, it's not a wise move.

That's the reason we suggest using a self custody wallet -- move your funds there first, then forward them to the vendor. Wallets that let you hold your own private keys include MetaMask, Rabby, Trust Wallet, Exodus, Phantom, plus hardware options like Ledger and Trezor.

A single outcome from that:

Because your account is now permanently tied to a vendor account, I wouldn't hold any significant amount that you would miss if the funds were frozen.
