Filtering is giving me trouble

A few weeks back I began reconstituting my own Reta, and every time I try to filter it, I run into problems. Getting the whole amount through the filter feels nearly impossible. The pull is extremely hard, and even after waiting a long time for it to finish pulling, some always stays behind — I end up losing roughly half a unit or so. Does this happen to others too? Or am I making some mistake?

Filters aren't meant to be drawn from — you push the liquid through them.

make sure you check out the video.

It also has to be pushed into a sterile vial.
I have the vials and all the supplies. I even sat through a video that demonstrated the process, but somewhere along the line I must have gotten a wire crossed, or maybe I just wasn't focused during that part of the video. Tonight I'll be reconstituting again, so my hope is that doing it this way makes things much simpler.

Once you've done a few, it'll feel completely automatic.

You'll pick it up soon enough. Every one of us has struggled with this at some point. Pushing during filtration can be tough at times, but avoid using too much force, or you'll rupture the filter.

Back when I was first filtering into pen cartridges, I didn't pull the venting needle out far enough. By the time I reached the end, some pep would escape through the venting needle. 🤣😭

And keep in mind....you're FILTERING!!! Good for you.

I needed to rewatch a video several times and jot down every step before I could keep it straight. Blew through a few needles and filters at the start.

Before long it'll be 2nd nature.

Welcome to grey.

And even when you've gone through the filtering process many times, a session can still take a wrong turn. 🤣

A week ago I had several things I was reconstituting simultaneously (which was mistake number one for me) and I thought I'd come up with a genius shortcut to simplify everything, which wound up with me burning through a ton of sryringes and needles and now I'm sitting here trying to figure out what on earth I did. Somehow I filtered everything back into the original vial despite having labeled a fresh sterile one. Since the vials are clear, I suppose I'll still use them, but...

OP - like @HereKittyKitty mentioned, it's great that you're filtering! Good on you for doing it. A lot of people just grip and rip.

I made the mistake of flipping the vial while the vent was still attached, and I spilled some ONCE. It's a lesson you learn the hard way.

True, I had 3 vials going at the same time — mixing and filtering. 3 vials to reconstitute, 3 fresh vials, syringes, and luer lock needles scattered all over. It got so muddled, and all of it was Reta, just different mg. These days I still handle 2 at once, one for my wife and one for me, but I keep each set apart and complete one before starting the next.

This hits home for me.

Same here — I can only handle a single task at once. The moment I'm done, I have to vent my target vial, otherwise I worry I'll mix up which one is the sterile vial.

Since I prefer to draw my bac only once per needle, putting together my Cu vial turns into a marathon of needles. 3 peps into 1 sterile vial. Good thing needles only run $0.06 each. 😂

And after a full year, I've finally gotten comfortable with air flushing. The math comes out easier that way. 😂

I started reconstituting my own Reta a few weeks ago, and I keep having trouble when I’m filtering it. It seems really difficult to get all of it through the filter. It pulls really hard, and it seems like no matter how long I let it pull, I don’t get all of it out and I lose a good have a unit or so. Is this common? Am I doing something wrong?

Just as the others have mentioned, great job on the filtering!! 👊
