A minor, perhaps irrelevant, update regarding the shipment from the "scammer".

Over the weekend and the past few days, I managed to plug the reference number into 17track and pull up these tracking details:

1/24 - Shenzhen Airport sorting warehouse, order information received.

2/2 - Shenzhen Airport sorting warehouse, entering the distribution center.

2/4 - Shenzhen Airport sorting warehouse, departing from the distribution center.

Is it possible this is legit?!

Did my first (maybe) China Grey order get swallowed by a CNY logjam at some airport storage spot, with nobody around to kick off the "disembarkation" — you know, actually getting it onto a plane?

Order number two (not looking like a scam so far) shows no tracking at all — the reference number comes back empty — right up until it reaches ONT and FedEx picks it up from there. 11 days so far.

Honestly, shelling out the extra cash to a China vendor that keeps a US warehouse is looking better and better right now, just for the peace of mind and being able to see where things are.

I'm $800+ deep at this point (plus another $100 gone on Solana) and I've got bupkis to show for it.

17track, Packages, and Aftership.

As for the 2nd/"Real" shipment reference number, the problem is that it starts with "DF", so no automatic detection occurs, and searching turns up nothing usable.

About 24 hours after ordering, the seller provided a FedEx tracking number that showed “label created” from within the US, which worried me since I was definitely ordering from CN and there was no stateside warehouse involved.

After just over 7 days with no movement and the status still stuck on “label created,” I reached out to the seller to ask what was happening. She explained that because of a holiday over there, it would take a few additional days before it could get on a plane. And just as she said, 4 days later the FedEx tracking updated, and as of today the package has arrived. That works out to 14 days from door to door.

From what this morning's update shows, it seems tracking info is going to arrive in dribs and drabs (likely tied to CNY).

2/7 HK, the goods have arrived at the port, waiting for flight arrangement

2/9 HK, the flight is expected to be on February 10th, the local flight is expected to arrive on February 10th

2/24 - A message came in from abroad saying customs is examining this parcel; inspections are beyond anyone's control, and there's no confirmed date for release yet. We'll keep tracking it, cooperate fully to get it handled, and push for it to clear quickly. Should anything change, you'll hear from us promptly. It's frequent enough that one seller is at least resending affected orders. After getting a customs inspection notice from the Chinese carrier, my order has been sitting in ONT for over 30 days, and my seller has gone silent.

I took a peek at Telegram just now, and it's chaos. There are sterility problems, plus a bunch of folks stuck in that 30-day+ No Man's Land. TFC Alice doesn't seem to be holding up well.

Is this something that typically happens around Chinese New Year? Should we all be bracing for a lot more package seizures?

Watching the conversation about that failed test is quite awkward, as plenty of people are arguing that a healthy person ought to handle a small amount of bacteria and similar things. There are numerous apologists saying either that everyone flunks the sterility test or that it's the grey market, so buyers should be cautious.

The annoying part is that the Telegram group keeps getting wiped of anything mentioning sterility tests that didn't pass, or even links to policy about product quality (straight-up quotes included). But I’m not able to talk about it here because my account is restricted from discussing that which shall not be named.

Good to know your package arrived. Based on when you posted this, Chinese New Year hadn't begun over there yet. Which holidays are they talking about, though?

Time to close the loop on this:

1) The ONT Customs black hole (late Jan through mid Feb) swallowed both of them, and nothing got out. The FedEx tracking numbers are still frozen at the same status, though I'd bet they'll eventually lapse or be shut down.

2) After stitching together the various chats and emails, refunds came through on both orders. The 2nd one went smoothly, just slowly. As for the first order — the scam one — it turned out to be exactly who I suspected from the start, and she gave me my money back too, though it took plenty of going back and forth. Judging by her channels, karma is serving her a hefty plate of payback.

Bottom line: this whole thing is a gamble, plain and simple. If you can't stomach the possibility of biting into that shit sandwich, then don't shell out for all the fixins…
