I listen to FS each week, most of the time, even though Dr. Cooper is vehemently against compounded GLPs. Fine, be against it, but she ratcheted it up this week, whole hour featuring the recent "Secret Shopper" study to see how easy/hard it is to get compounded GLPs via telehealth.

Again, fine, be opposed to it, put your affluent patients on Eli Lily's stuff, but what chaps my grits is utterly ignoring that for so many people this is their ONLY option (that or grey). This kind of BS is going to keep people from GLPs - can't go with the scary compounded and can't afford the real thing. So I'll just stay fat and die. Grrrrrrrr. 😡

Generally, Fat Science has really good information about GLPs and dieting, or rather, NOT dieting, which I appreciate.

I haven't listened to this episode yet, but it is annoying that they go out of their way to "prove" that compounded is "dangerous" 🙄. As you said, for most of the population, the benefits of the GLPs outweigh the risks.

According to Google, 10-23 people have ever died from compounded GLP-1s. That number is unverified. Yet, 1.16 to 1.19 million people worldwide die EVERY YEAR from car accidents. Don't see anyone out there trying to stop car sales.

BTW at the end she notes that there is an effort "on the table" to outright ban compounding of any GLPs. ?? I mean, I guess I assumed that was happening behind the scenes but this is the first time I've heard it me ruined as a fact. Anyone know more about this?

What’s the skinny on why it is dangerous according to them? No way I can settle down and listen to something like that. Thanks much

TLDL: Compounding bad because you don't know what you're getting; adding B12 / B6 makes it an unknown potentially harmful substance; you can't / shouldn't take any meds without going through your doctor who must do full panels and such before you can have a glp; compounding GLP is not legal; telehealth is prone to dosing errors because labels aren't clear; and you must remember how much the drug companies spent to develop these meds, think of them!

I GET these objections, I really do. Just that as I said earlier, it ignores how f'd up our healthcare system is that CREATED the fact that this is the only means of getting the lifesaving med for many.

Yeah, I get links like this from family sometimes like I'm risking my life and so forth. Where the fuck was that energy when I was Class II obese and facing sky high chances of every leading cause of death in the world?

I read a forum with lots of Newbies. Some Americans giving themselves shots from a vial is dangerous. Many Americans have no idea that MG and ML are two different things. Simple instructions printed on the vial, box, and emailed from the doctor, are to be immediately ignored. Instructions from a doctor are never read. Americans are horrible at very simple math. It's impossible for some Americans to watch and comprehend a simple 3 minute video that shows you exactly what to do. Older Americans are terrible at listening. Most Americans have no idea how Google works or how to search a forum for their answer. Americans are awesome at asking stupid questions.

One person was sent their meds. She was to take her 2.5mg dose but was out of meds after her first week. She said it was a 12mg vial so of course she used two needles to inject her 120 units week one. Week two, she didn't have enough medicine to fill her second needle and was being ripped off by the 503A. She was supposed to take 50 units.

My other favorite is, I am supposed to take 50 units for a 5mg dose but want to stay at 2.5mg for another week but have no idea how many units to take. Other people respond with a shot calculator which is nice but this is not exactly calculus.

True, undeniably. (Except the part about older people, hey! I'm one of them! ) Anyway, yes, I read such forums too, all the time, on FB I now just automatically block the most offensive idiots, I don't have time in my life for a certain level of wanton ignorance. Yesterday there were 1/2 dozen different posts along the lines of, "OMG, I just found out that GLPs cause blindness!" or a person on TikTok just exposed the cancer link with GLPs!

Block.

Valid. People need affordable options.. it's literally LIFE or DEATH for SO many people. I hate insurance. A loved one was young, close to 300 lbs, high BP, high cholesterol, high fat (obvi) and insurance denied her coverage. I could not believe that they would rather pay for a life of medical complications than help a young person get better. And I wouldnt mind if they offered to do some comprehensive testing to see WHY said young person was so large. I am so icked at the state of insurance here at the moment and really hope that it can somehow be improved.

Oh yes. This PSA is presented by the Wee Sly Willie Corporation. Dedicated to protecting you from your worst enemy, your personal self choices.

They want a complete ban on 503b glp compounding and a different thing I saw said that each individual 503a pharmacy would be limited to no more than 10 custom compounds per month.

FDA proposes ban on bulk compounding of GLP

#-

Discussions surrounding a potential complete ban on 503B GLP-1 compounding reached a critical turning point on April 30, 2026, when the FDA officially proposed a rule to exclude semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide from the 503B Bulks List. If finalized, this rule would essentially eliminate the legal pathway for large-scale, industrial outsourcing facilities to mass-produce these highly popular weight-loss and diabetes medications from raw active ingredients

Man, I'm so glad I don't have to deal with the American healthcare system, not sure how it got so fucked. Blame big pharma, blame big insurance, blame big something. I don't know.

I get prescribed name brand Mounjaro for ~$260/month, after insurance it's around ~$26/month. I didn't have to jump through hoops either. I went to doctor, told doctor I'm fat, doctor looked at me and said "Yes, you're fat", did some tests, then BAM prescription.

Not sure why it can't be like that in America.

Obviously you can go grey for cheaper, but $26 is nothing and worth the peace of mind, in my opinion.

Alot of fatness influencers dont want to lose you as a repeat customer. Same reason that lady from the extreme weightloss show hates on glps. Pharma and insurance are the same way. Why fix the issue if i can keep these calorically challenged sentient sofas alive just enough to buy our meds. And pay the insurance to only cover some of it. I mean. Thats not even going into govt. The worse thing you can ever hear is "were the government and were here to help". Was it the tuskegee syphillis study or the rampant thalidomide use in the 40s? Or maybe the monsters study in iowa? Idk do i trust grey market entirely? No. But do i trust anything going on around the rest of the globe? Nah. Atleast i can test and verify this flavor of bullshit. If you believe in third party testing. . .

Thanks for the TLDR.

There are fixes but they don't sing lullabies to corporate medicine.

I spoke to one of my medical providers about compounded and they shut me right down. When pressed, they said they couldn't support the use of alternative salts (& whatever other compounding ingredients) to ensure my good health. Ok, fair. But they had no other option for me. So, grey I went. Fortunately, my PCP was very receptive to my turning to HERS for my glp-1.

I am in the best health of my life according to my labs and recent imaging. Next labs on Tuesday.

Go Birds
