Today I hit my limit and requested a new trainer. My current one has cancelled on me 10 times over 6 months.

I get that family stuff comes up and life happens, but even with that in mind, having it happen every other week is too much. One of those cancellations was because he double booked himself and gave the new clients priority over me. Jesus.

what was your gear-grinding bullshit this week?

The deadline for my tax filing extension is only 37 hours and 34 minutes away....

You shouldn't tolerate that kind of behavior. My own experience with a trainer was limited to a single stretch during Covid — it was actually a workaround that let me meet with a rehab trainer once weekly while gyms were shut down, and that arrangement gave me unlimited gym access the whole time. Still, he was solid, and the sessions were tough in exactly the way I want my workouts to be. The takeaway is that your trainer has to be someone you can count on and who also drives you hard.

Walmart. Naturally.

Not long ago I went looking for a pair of EVA gardening shoes I was after — just $8! Great! Headed to WM.

Then at the register it scans at $15. I wave a clerk over and hold up my phone so he can SEE the price. "That's only if you order it online for pickup."

I tell him that's nonsense, but fine, I'll play along — phone comes back out, I place the online order, and I say: done, it's ordered online, I'm here to collect them.

"You can't. Someone has to go find them for you."

"Find them? I already found them! They're right here in my hand."

Nope. I'd have to drive home and wait anywhere from several hours to a day while somebody "picked" them for me, and only then could I take them.

Good lord. For the record Walmart, this is exactly why Amazon routinely kicks your ass. (This actually happened about a month ago and I'm still pissed about it, lol!)

This morning another driver cut left through my lane and I ended up in a crash. The car was purchased in July. I spent the whole year putting money aside and bought it outright, and now the insurance has written it off as totalled.

Every bit of that happened just because somebody couldn't wait.

The same pattern shows up at Home Depot. Their focus lands on metrics rather than service, since they're pitching online plus in-store pickup to investors as the next big thing and the store's future. Still, I've had good results there: when I hand the service desk the number from the order I just placed, and everything I want is already in my cart, they simply flag it as "picked" and let me take it as is. That spares the order pickers and the service desk the hassle of locating and staging everything.

It's a great trick when your card got left at home and you'd rather not make the whole trip back- just place the purchase online with your card details.

That's genuinely awful, and I feel for you! Ugh!!!

The only items I purchase online from Home Desperate are appliances, and I do that only after extensive research. Ours is actually something I like, though Lowes is not a store I'm fond of.
