Dermatologist suggested retinol to smooth skin what do you guys use?

So I am 59 and have never been much for sunblock, love the outdoors, and have developed some skin imperfections on cheek bone around nose area.

Not really acne, closer to pore issues and some bumps?

I should have asked the technical name, I may next week.

I was looking at Korean site and found a few things, just not sure if it is what i need.

If I understand first the serum than the creme.. am I overthinking this? will it work?

I also have an orbital sander with some 220 grit paper, is that better?

Seriously, what would everyone recommend for a guy that will not be spending much more than 5 minutes

I already bought the ceraVe and started it today..

I think it is sebaceous hyperplasia, like 99% sure.. I was in for another treatment and forget what she said.

Orbital sander sounds good to me. Though I think I'd start with the 220 grit and move up to maybe 1000 slowly for best results.

I'm younger than you. 29. But I've had good results keeping a decent 'clean face' appearance with a shower scrub from cetaphil that has glycerin in it. Has helped make my pores appear smaller. Just started a run of GHK-Cu this week as well but no evidence that it's doing anything yet.

Thats likely beyond the capability of topical treatments. Is cryotherapy maybe an option?

I could look into it, but I am not going to be in any movies and am not so vain that I would spend a lot to resolve.

She did recommend retinol products, just looking for feedback on that or other suggestions.

In all seriousness, let us know if anything works. I think most men (of all ages) have odd spots like that we’d love to get rid of.
 
Retinol is a sure thing for aging skin. I'm not sure there are any topical that are the mainstay that this is. Find the strength and frequency your skin will tolerate and make it part of your quick regimen.
 
Tretinoin is amazing. It improves texture, tone, fine line and wrinkles, reduces pore size (or appearance of).

Did she give you usage guidance? If not, can share with you the guidance I got from my derm.

It might be cheaper but I drive 15 minutes into town in a 98 for ranger which gets like 17mpg 😂 just to wait in line for 20 mins.. Amazon delivered the next day. I realize it can be cheaper taking only dollar accounts into account. I am going to stick with this until I find a GB. I think I had just missed one.

She did not, and as I read more about it the dosage amounts range based on requirements>?

I plan on calling Monday. I will reply back here when I get more info, but am definitely interested in tretinoin.

Whatever dosage she prescribes, if she doesn't give you initial usage guidance, def. ask her how to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Also not relevant to men but... I have started using my estradiol cream on my face too. It all kind of snowballed. First I got the GHK Cu cosmetic powder and was using that, then I got the HRT and was like oh imma use that on my face. Now I have the trentoin.

My skincare game has been 0 for like 20 years. I was blessed I think with good skin and did stay out of the sun or used sunscreen. Never had an acne problem extra the rando pimple. When I take a picture of my face, it looks blotchy, dull ect. But when I look in the mirror, it looks good. So maybe this will help with pictures.

Not long ago someone posted some cautionary info about estrogen for topical use on the face. If I run across it - may have been elsewhere - will share it.

It's because estradiol is systemic and estriol is not. My cream is low potency but is estradiol.

Not to long ago women couldn't have HRT either. So rush tolerance may vary.

I am interested in reading it if you find it.
