My company's legal team just went over this when we were considering to patent a recent invention, and several patents we found were granted globally.

That's where it gets its name. Patent meaning obvious. As opposed to trade secrets where you wouldn't need protection.
 
You can have a globally granted patent, and that means exactly the same as no patent to individuals or companies or nations who don't care at all about ip law 🤷

I definitely downloaded music from limewire, movies from popcorn time-"legal" or at least okay in Belgium and the NL when I lived there, and totally not okay when I moved back to the US, and now I buy illicit Chinese peptides.

Oh, man! I almost forgot! I also used to get black market Russian "Marlboros."
