Can COAs Be Trusted?

I came across this suspicious-link-removed piece discussing a RUO business that is up for sale NO SOURCE DISCUSSION!. What caught my attention was how the article examines the connection between that company and the site it calls "independent" for testing. It also digs into a broader conversation: the ties between these vendors and whichever company handles their 3rd Party Testing...from what it describes, those two are not actually separate operations...it sounds more like a partnership.

Give the article a read and share what you think...are these COAs something we should put our faith in?

Everyone talks up Janosik as the gold standard of testing, but wait a moment. Nothing stops any of us from whipping up a slick, official-looking fake using Adobe Acrobat tricks. And with AI nowadays? Honestly simpler than photoshopping. How many people here would ever bother reaching out to Janosik to confirm those tests actually happened? Put on your tinfoil hat for a second — what proof do we have that Janoshik themselves wouldn't feed us lies?

We come into this as people with our backs against the wall, which makes us ideal marks for predators. The only glue holding this rickety ecosystem together is the honor system.

A Jano COA contains a link pointing to the genuine COA. A vendor COA carries almost no value on its own, so I don't view a doctored COA as something to worry about. How would anyone know whether it was cherry picked, or whether it corresponds to that batch at all?

The rationale for working with and having faith in an outfit like Jano is called "Reputational Risk". The same logic explains why you count on McDonalds not to serve you food poisoning. Their good name is their livelihood, and the danger of that livelihood collapsing is too great for them to cut corners. None of this means Jano, or McDonalds, is incapable of ever making a mistake, but it does mean that acting correctly serves their own best interest.
 
Doing your own testing is definitely worth pursuing whenever you can. I realize that's not always doable given what testing costs, especially if you can't locate a dependable group of people ready to chip in alongside you. So at the very least, as another person brought up, be sure to obtain the link to the vendor COAs so you're able to confirm they aren't a photoshop job
 
In Telegram groups, real purchasers share COAs that were either obtained by the group or paid for by individuals.
 
Obtain a CoA through the Jano link. Should that not be credible to you, then no amount of testing will fix the issue. Testing each individual vial is not feasible, yet that is what would truly be required.
