Given how many individuals worry about preserving lean mass, this article seemed worth sharing.

Phase 3a REDEFINE findings were unveiled at a conference in Turkey earlier this month, indicating a 12% rise in the lean mass proportion for the cagrisema arm. Naturally, absolute lean mass went down, but because fat mass was reduced to a greater extent, the lean mass percentage climbed proportionally.

For anyone thinking about including one of the amylin analogues in their approach, these outcomes look favorable.

Results from the REDEFINE-1 trial (NCT05567796) were presented in Türkiye not long ago, evaluating Novo Nordisk's CagriSema in adults with obesity.

Running the stat that way seems odd—what were their lean loss and weight loss figures?

I'm unable to dig in and work it out on my own at the moment, though generally anything below 25% is viewed as favorable.

Not a dig at you.

Here is another paper leaning on a weak proxy for muscle retention. When it comes to body composition I will only take CT or MRI numbers.

This one gets it right: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/10.2214/AJR.24.31805. It documents drops in visceral fat, liver volume and intramuscular fat. Every one of those gets filed as "lean mass loss ", yet they are precisely the numbers we want coming down.

Honestly, whichever weight loss medication someone takes, the key to keeping lean mass is regular resistance training plus sufficient protein intake. With any such drug, you can even gain lean mass and achieve a recomposition. That's why, whenever I come across these studies, I think there's no point in even debating it. My view is this: if you aren't training consistently and getting enough protein, then using a weight loss drug and expecting only fat to be lost is just foolish.
