Boron — does it actually boost testosterone or is it just hype?

I've been taking boron each morning for around 6 months now... can't recall the reason, though I doubt testosterone had anything to do with it 😂

A friend suggested a supplement to me some time ago, after I mentioned that my shoulder was bothering me with soreness and stiffness: https://www.amazon.com/Collagen-Move-Free-Supplement-Cartilage/dp/B07VLJN7C6

I was pretty doubtful at first. I've run a few informal tests on myself — using it for a stretch, then stopping for a while — and the soreness in my shoulder clearly changes. Boron 5mg appears among the listed ingredients. Whether it's actually the boron doing anything, or the other components such as collagen, I can't say, but it's good to see there's at least some information about boron out there. When I first spotted it on the label, my reaction was "huh... never heard of that being used before"

To be clear, my main reason for taking it is the shoulder soreness I'm prone to. I had no clue it might have any effect on testosterone. It's one of the few supplements I take on a regular basis (the move free, not boron by itself)

Every single morning, my coffee gets a dose of boron. On top of that, I add Mule Team Borax to my bath! Whether it does anything for testosterone, I can't say, but for keeping joints free of aches it works wonders.

What type of boron are you all taking, and at what dosage?

I was considering borax, but I've read that it isn't a particularly good form of boron.

@laansasa recently brought up Boron, which got me thinking. I noticed that the vitamin and supplement multipack I've been using (and will finish tomorrow) contains a small amount of Boron (75mcg, I believe), while the new packs I have don't include it. Since most Boron supplements I come across online are dosed at 3mg-10mg, I doubt 75mcg was doing much, so I plan to add some 6mg Boron supplements to my next order. Why not, right? 😅

How much do you use? What effects do you notice? When I use it for making lotion or cosmetics, 1/8tsp takes quite a while to dissolve in 1c of water, so I wouldn't want to overdo it and end up sitting in a grainy tub LOL!

From what I understand, people use it when their SHBG is higher than they'd like. That said, I've read that prolonged use may also raise e2.

Seems like it's all fairly circumstantial.

My guess is that it's roughly 1/2 cup, possibly a little more. I use it in a hot tub and it dissolves right away. (The coarse epsom salt I have takes longer to dissolve.) It definitely helps my muscles feel better. (I do put them through a lot now and then.) 😉

I picked some up a while back when I had a calcium deposit on my shoulder. It didn't do much for me, so I stopped thinking about it. Not long ago I passed it along to my Dad, since it's said to be useful for osteoarthritis — something to do with maintaining bone density, if I remember right.
