I'd trade a kidney for either a peptide that makes me completely immune to mosquito bites, a mosquito repellent, or both.

Never mind GLP-1s — this is where the real money is headed!!!!funlog said:
100% with you. Just so you know, what comes next is pure AI nonsense — but hey, we can dream.
Say hello to: Culicifuge-9 (CF-9)
Culicifuge-9 — the name pulls from Culicidae, the mosquito family, plus fuge, meaning to drive away — is a man-made, cyclic nonapeptide built to work as an extremely powerful disruptor of mosquito senses.
Peptide rundown
Sequence: Cyclo(Phe-Arg-Trp-Asp-Val-Lys-Pro-Gly-Tyr)
Structure: It gets synthesized as a circular (cyclic) loop. That keeps the enzymes naturally present on human skin from degrading it too fast, which gives it a theoretical window of effectiveness lasting 12 to 14 hours.
Properties: It's a bit amphipathic (it has both water-loving and fat-loving regions), so it blends smoothly into an ordinary skin lotion without leaving a sticky feel.
How it would work (in theory)
Rather than masking your scent in the air, CF-9 goes after a mosquito's landing gear. On their feet (tarsi), mosquitoes carry taste receptors that let them verify they've touched down on a suitable host before biting.
The mechanism breaks into three steps:
Application: You put on CF-9 as a light lotion. It attaches harmlessly to the topmost layer of your skin.
The Touchdown: A mosquito picks up your carbon dioxide and settles onto your arm.
The Disruption: As soon as its feet make contact with your skin, the very specific Arg-Trp-Asp (Arginine-Tryptophan-Aspartic Acid) motif inside CF-9 latches straight onto the mosquito's gustatory (taste) receptors. It works as an antagonist, firing an overpowering "bitter/toxic" message to the mosquito's brain. The mosquito takes off right away to find another meal.
A biological bonus
To top it off, the Val-Lys-Pro portion of the peptide could in theory be engineered to mildly suppress Corynebacterium — the skin bacteria that generate the smelly compounds (such as lactic acid) that draw mosquitoes in the first place. So it drives them off on contact and also makes you less tempting from a distance.
