Something along these lines came up in a reddit thread I can no longer find (apologies). It was in one of the science communities, and the people commenting were actual researchers and lab technicians. The thread covered Lilly and others applying this kind of tooling to spot candidate molecular structures, then racing to patent the lot so they can sit on it and decide about testing and development down the line.
