A small habit that has been helping me stay more organized with food

I’ve been trying to build better eating habits lately.

One small thing I started doing is putting labels on my meal prep containers and some snacks. I use a NIIMBOT label maker to make simple labels with things like the food name, calories, or portion size.

For snacks that I know I might overeat, I’ll add a little reminder on the package about how much I want to have each day.

It’s honestly just a small habit, but these little reminders have made managing my food choices feel a lot easier.

If that works for you, that's great. Little habits added up over time can make big results. Portion control is a problem for a lot of people. What works for me is putting each daily serving In its own zip lock bag. When I pack my food for the day I grab a zip lock with a chicken breast, a ziplock with two chicken thighs, a ziplock with 1/2 lb of ground turkey and a can of sardines. No thinking, no adding it up.

I love this idea! Pre-portioning everything definitely makes it easier to stay on track because you don’t have to think about it every time you’re hungry.

2 things,

I set my daily calorie quota below what I actually want (it is hard to get the numbers right without weighing everything, this allows room for error)

I try to have items that I can grab and goal with lots of sweet, salty, or savory

These are great tricks!

I tend to eat the same thing over and over and over again 😂 it makes things so easy! I like to batch cook proteins, and have fresh fruit and veg on hand. For snacking I reach for protein chips/bars/ice cream type items. At least my protein gets a boost if I am feeling snacky!

The docs at the Mayo Clinic wrote a book that offers some tips on measuring portions. For example, the amount of protein source per meal should be about the size of your palm; if it's bigger than your hand, it's too much.

There's also an analogy with the size of a baseball when it comes to carbohydrates. But in my region, we don't play baseball, just basketball and rugby...

Good idea! I think I’ll give it a shot...maybe I’ll start labeling my meals too. Whenever I overeat, I end up trying to make up for it with extra workouts. It’s honestly pretty frustrating, especially on days when work drains all my energy and the last thing I want to do is exercise.

I totally understand! That’s one of the reasons I started labeling my food. My NIIMBOT label maker has been helpful for adding little reminders, and it helps me be more aware of my choices.

I portion out anything that comes in a bag. Chips snacks etc. The whole bag. That way I can still have Fritos as long as I only eat one ziplock per day

Nice idea!

Nice tip! Learned something new today. I actually have a niimbot m2, might give this a try.🤓

Nice! I have the NIIMBOT M2 too. I originally got it just for labeling my meal prep, but I ended up using it for storage boxes and organizing things around my home as well. It’s really handy and makes it so much easier to keep everything clear and organized.
