A little different topic: could we talk about reducing plastic waste? 🌱

I've been thinking about how much plastic waste is generated from GLP-1 and peptide use and packaging, vial components, syringes, needle packaging, shipping materials, etc etc.

Obviously anything involving sharps or contaminated medical waste needs to be disposed of appropriately, but I wonder whether there's an opportunity to reduce some of the unnecessary packaging and use more environmentally friendly or recyclable materials where it's safe to do so.

The forum talks a lot about harm reduction, so I was wondering if environmental impact be considered another aspect of harm reduction? Plastic waste can persist in the environment and affect wildlife and ecosystems.

What do you think are there realistic ways the GLP-1 and peptide community could reduce unnecessary plastic waste without compromising safety?

It is just a thought and everyone's opinion is welcome.

It is for this reason I'm looking into using pens. It seems like less waste than multiple syringes, with plastic caps etc everyday.

I reduce plastic in a different way. I prefer to stick with disposable syringes.

But sinde starting GLP-1s, I drink a lot more sports drinks. I now make my own (most times), instead of piling up empty Gatorade Zero bottles - which, unfortunately, aren’t actually recycled in my area. Even if they go in the blue bins.

@kazza94x how appropriate is it for you to create an endless series of new threads that are wildly off-topic and beyond the scope of even a Public Square section on a site that has a specific focus? Zodiac signs, How are you really?, this. Plus very very basic questions which are much-discussed on existing threads.

If it's your goal to be advanced in "level," I doubt the algorithm works that way ... plus there are no additional actual benefits to those tags beyond amusement. Were I an admin/mod of a discussion forum (which I'm not), I'd add demerits for over-posting with minimal content.

I believe safety to people is more important than the impact on the environment in this case. I personally don't think there is enough waste to warrant that anyway.

Meh, I think it's a lot of plastic. Nothing like what gets carted out of the ICU but plenty. I say do what you can, I am going to switch to pens.

Where I live, recyclables like plastic, metal, and drink cartons (PMD) are collected separately and sent for maximum recycling.

In an effort to reduce my plastic waste, eliminate my need for syringes, and no longer be dependent on the whims of big pharma's high priced bac water...

I started snorting lyopholized reta.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Switching to pens reduces a ton of plastic waste.

Buying larger quantities of peps at one time reduce shipping/packaging waste.

Vials can be recycled after tops have been removed.

That brings waste down to pretty minimal:

Pen needles, alcohol wipes, and the tops of vials a few syringes (for reconning) a few vent needles.

Bah, we have recycling centers that take the sharps bin, and they give you a new one. Imagine how minimal those orange caps are.

I saved 4 Gatorade bottles and mix 4 Liquid IV's at a time and put them in the garage fridge. Perfect size.

I don't know if you are trying to bait me here but I really don't feel the need to explain myself. Look at the forum and the endless discussions of off topic and public square information that is not relevant but accepted because it is "off topic". Advanced in level ? No idea what that means. Well you are not an admin or mod, so suggesting what you would do to a particular member who posts just as much as other people in off topic is wildly inappropriate. None, it's the airlines. Exempt from law suits. That's still one kit of R30 for consultation.
