Hey everyone — I'm FatCookie, a 48 year-old dad from the US who lost his wife, and I'm here because I want to get healthy for my girls.

And for myself too.

Two young daughters, both beautiful, are the reason I'm joining this community — they need a dad who stays healthy, strong, and present for many years to come. My wife passed away from cancer a couple of years back, and once that happened my own health slid: I put on a lot of weight. It hit me that I can no longer assume my health will just be there. Coaching their sports, keeping up with them, taking them on adventures, simply being around while they grow up — that's the father I want to be. That's what brought me here.

Diets and exercise routines have come and gone for me, but nothing has really stuck long-term, especially with the stress and grief I've been carrying. As for GLP-1 medications, I have no personal experience with them yet, though I've been reading a lot about them and I'm hopeful they might help me get control of my health. Positive lifestyle changes interest me too — nutrition, strength training, mindset. Managing all of this as a single dad has just been impossible.

I'm here with an open mind and a real commitment to making this change. I know it won't be easy, especially stepping into a forum like this and sharing something so personal, but I'm ready to put in the work for my girls. I'm looking forward to learning from all of you, reading your stories, and becoming part of this community.

Thank you for hearing me out.

My condolences on losing your wife. I faced a comparable circumstance a number of years back. Take pride in being a single Dad and give it your all. Sometimes life sends unexpected challenges your way, and it seems like you have a lot on your plate. Stay positive and absorb as much as possible here. There are so many great folks on this forum. I'll watch for your posts and assist however I'm able. You've got this!
