Long time reader, first time posting, and I’ve finally taken the plunge with reta.

Stats-wise I’m about 5’4 and 130lb. My diet is fairly clean, I get to the gym no fewer than 3x per week, and I hit 10,000 steps daily. Getting rid of 15 pounds has been the goal for ages, but nights often turn into binges and weekends into overeating, so the scale barely moves. My hope is that reta quiets some of the food noise and helps break those patterns.

My starting dose was .5mg. Not a huge difference so far — the pull to overeat is still there, though it seems weaker. Part of me wonders if tirz would have suited me better, but since the dose is low, I’ll bump it to 1mg this week or next.

Excited to finally chat with you all!

Do you know your bodyfat percentage or ffmi? At 5'4", 130 lb is a really healthy weight. If lifting has given you a solid amount of muscle, you might already be sitting close to the lowest end of the body fat range for women.

At 5'4", ideal body weight comes out to 120 lbs. Dropping 15 lbs therefore stays within a healthy range, though it sits toward the bottom of what's considered normal. That final stretch of pounds, however, tends to come off with more effort.

My fiancée went through comparable issues. She raised her dose to 1.2mg, got a hormone panel run, and it showed that 1 of her hormones was low. Now she takes hormone replacement tablets along with Reta, and the weight is coming off really well. She is 38.

You'll figure out the dose that works for you — hopefully 1mg will be enough. Best of luck ✌️

An ideal body weight that applies to everyone does not exist. I also wasn't claiming that 115lbs at 5'4" is automatically unhealthy. My point was simply that 130 is already a healthy weight, and it could be a desirable one if she carries a decent amount of muscle. What matters here is that using bodyweight as the main measure is a poor approach, and bmi only tells part of the story. BF% and FFMI give a much better indication of how someone physically looks.

Welcome!

Here's my take:

When it comes to your size and weight, you're already sitting in a solid place (no point nitpicking over what counts as "ideal"). My guess is that a few small tweaks to how you eat and how much you train could close that gap on their own.

What does your current training look like — could you share that with us?

On the protocol side: like you said, Tirz suppresses appetite more strongly, but Reta ought to do the job. For me personally, 1mg dosed twice weekly (Sunday/Thursday) gave the best results, though everyone responds differently.

What I'd do is log your calories for 2–4 weeks so you can pin down your maintenance intake accurately. After that, you can make adjustments.

Just make sure you're getting enough protein and not skimping on fats (I’ve seen hormone panels plummet from going too low-fat).

My suggestion: put protein and healthy fats first, then place your complex carbs in the morning and evening. Together with the Reta, this keeps you full through the day and heads off late-night cravings, so your sleep stays good.

Hope this helps.

Good luck on your journey!

I agree with splitting the dose into 2 shots per week. Otherwise, reta doesn't do much for keeping hunger down. It has absolutely helped me stop eating at night, though.

You might also want to check out ipa/tesa, which could be useful given that you're already working out.

Shedding that final 10 lbs is the hardest part. Keeping a log is useful. Another thing that helps is not keeping snacks around the house. If you truly want something, don't forbid yourself from having it, but also don't leave it within easy reach. When it isn't at home, getting it means heading out. Usually, in my case anyway, the hassle of going out outweighs the desire for it.

IBW is a measurement, but it sits at the very middle, and a range exists around it. Frame size and muscle mass are obvious exceptions, of course. It's meant as a broad reference, and waist circumference ought to be factored in too.
