20 yo F beginning Reta today — introduction

I began at that dose too. My approach was very gradual, and it took roughly 6 weeks before I increased to 1mg. Around week 3ish was when I first saw results. At this point I've been using it for about 4 months, I'm still on 1mg, and results are still coming. Progress is slow, but it's headed the right way.

Welcome!

Remember that for most people, the initial effects of the medication become noticeable after 48-72 hours. Don't hurry and inject several times simply because appetite suppression doesn't hit you right away.
Sensitivity levels vary from person to person. For me, the glucagon receptor activation—which boosts metabolism and generates heat—kicked in roughly 24 hours prior to any decrease in appetite. Additionally, with a 0.5mg dose, glucagon activation might be the only effect you notice. Since the standard starting dose is 2mg, using a lower amount could either succeed or fail to produce the results you're after. Still, I'm rooting for your success! Wishing you the best!

My starting dose was 2mg, though since I’d already been on Tirz, I figured such a low amount wouldn’t do anything. Even so, I’ve stayed at 2mg for quite some time and haven’t felt any urge to go higher! Several weeks passed before I noticed it doing anything, but it’s definitely progressing at this point! In my experience, Reta demands some patience, yet when it kicks in, it really kicks in 🙂

Honestly, week 1 was pretty uneventful for me, so I'm considering bumping it to 1.5 mg for this next week!

I'm not trying to be that guy, and you mentioned feeling heat — I've been down that road too, and for me nothing like that happened. That said, from what I understand, glucagon activation isn't supposed to happen until you're at higher doses? Guess I should dig into that more as well.

Right, 2mg is the lowest you'd begin with.

I'm a large older guy and I handle medications really well, reta being no exception. 1.5mg seems like a reasonable starting point. My own start was 0.5mg taken 4 times across 1 week, after which I moved to 1mg every 3 days for 1 month. These days it's 2mg every 3 days, which comes to 4.66 weekly. Splitting it into 2 doses per week works much better for keeping appetite down. I raised my dose by 2mg each month rather than 1, though I wouldn't tell you to do the same. Doing it twice a week, however, is something you could choose!

For me, week 3 was when everything clicked. Weeks 1 and 2 definitely brought loss and effects, but once week 3 arrived I had full control and far more research behind me.

Track your calories. Track your protein early on too. Chicken breasts are your friend. Aim to eat every 4 hours. Apples make lovely snacks. If night time munchies hit, go for skim mozzarella sticks/shreds.

At 7 weeks in I'm down roughly 20lb. You got this girlie!

be sure to keep an eye on how much protein you're getting, or you'll lose muscle along with the weight

I'm 2 weeks in at .5mg, and I've lost 3.6 lbs up to now. My plan is to remain at this dose for 4 weeks, then evaluate whether to go up to 1.0. My approach is based on the minimal effective dose.

Glad you're here! Beginning with .5mg is a wise choice. Personally, I kicked off at 2mg and things have gone well up to now. Move at a gradual pace and don't hurry the titration process—down the road, you'll be grateful you did.
