Hi!

Jenna here, 35/F, based in Northern California. Weight has been an issue for me throughout my entire adult years, but several years back, a psychiatric prescription triggered a swift and significant jump in my weight. That medication genuinely rescued my life, yet the most I have ever managed to shed is 20 lbs, only to put it right back on almost immediately. Food and I have never had a good dynamic, and I fell into a pattern of eating heavily late at night (sometimes I would even get up and consume anything within reach, almost like I was on autopilot 😕). Things improved somewhat, but it never fully went away, despite having stopped that med roughly 4 years ago.

In any case, I am keen to pick up what I can from the experiences shared by people on this forum, and I hope to find others whose stories mirror mine when it comes to binge eating or putting on weight because of mental health prescriptions, since I now realize I am far from the only one. My husband is also obese, and I am very interested in anything that might help him too, so that the two of us can be around as long as we can for our two children. My mental state is FAR better these days, and now I am ready to turn my attention to my physical health.

If you made it through everything above, thank you! If your own journey looks anything like mine, please say hi! Knowing I am not alone would mean so much to me right now 😊

Hey! The battle is genuine, but with any luck, discovering this community means we're headed in the right direction🤞 Weight has been a challenge for me for the majority of my life as well, yet I can gladly say that at 44, I'm in the best health I've ever had, and ideally things will keep improving? Wishing both you and your husband lots of success on this path!

Thanks for getting back to me — that's awesome that you've managed to get healthier! If you don't mind me asking, what kinds of things got you to the healthiest point you've reached so far? Not long ago I stuck with dieting and exercise for more than a month, but the binge eating urges were a constant battle and I saw zero results (my weight actually went up), so I lost motivation and slipped back into my old routines.

Are you already on glp1 meds, or are you still just checking it out the way I am?

Welcome aboard! For the past few years I had a serious coca cola habit — 3 lt daily, and I'd mostly drink it at night during late work sessions. The weight piled on big time! Then I had an accident (meniscus and ACL tear), and I told myself I needed to do something so my knee would feel better. Something clicked, I completely cleaned up my diet, and tons of weight came off within a few months. No peps or anything else. If it worked for me, it can work for anyone. I used to wake up during the night to drink coke — totally addicted — and I still managed to leave it behind.

Anyway, yes, there are many things that can help you and your husband to lose weight, just take some time to read the threads, there are a lot of peptides for that.

Best of luck! 🙂

Emotional eating during binges has without a doubt been one of my biggest vices over the years.

On top of that, I wasn't paying much attention to what I put in my body or to how many calories I took in each day, and living that way for so long has resulted in plenty of excess weight and a lot of shame I've kept bottled up inside. I've also gone through several stretches of giving it a shot and coming up short, even at times when I thought 'hey! I'm really trying and yet I'm not even getting anywhere 😭'. Other times I've dropped a decent amount of weight, only for major life changes and/or some kind of mental breakdown (stress, illness, etc) to wipe out all that 'progress'.

You are not alone! To learning! 🍻
