I’ve been considering whether to work retatrutide into the tirzepatide regimen I’m on now, and if my body handles it well, maybe move over to it entirely at some point.

If you’ve already made that change—or you’re running both at the same time—I’d really like to hear how it went for you.

When you moved from tirzepatide to retatrutide, was it a gradual step-down, or did you cut tirzepatide and begin retatrutide immediately?

If you did taper, how were your doses spaced out?

Were there any side effects, shifts in appetite, or differences in weight loss that stood out?

This isn’t a request for medical advice—I’m only curious about real world experiences from those who’ve gone through it. Thanks in advance!

Hey Zach,

Glad to have you here. Lately I've been noticing that a number of people aren't sure how to use the site's search feature.

As Herkimer points out, it's genuinely the fastest route to building up what you know.

Should you want a walkthrough, feel free to reach out. Helping folks get the hang of these things is something I enjoy.

I’m really grateful for that. Having someone walk me through things while I get my bearings would be great.

Getting a handle on how this forum works is genuinely worthwhile.

Spend a bit of time exploring and mapping out the site's structure.

Use the tabs along the top and look through each of the sub forums --

Even after months of being here, I keep stumbling on older threads worth reading by using the forum's search feature.

Look for the magnifying glass icon 🔍 or the word "Search" in the top right corner of the page.

From there, hit the orange "Advanced Search" -- by trying out different keywords and toggling "Search titles only" you can surface all sorts of topics

I quit tirz and jumped directly to Reta. A few months later I went back to tirz, because even though the pounds were dropping quickly, my appetite wasn’t suppressed at all and the food noise remained. I ramped Reta up to 8mg, then simply returned to tirz at 5mg.

So you still dropped weight effectively while on Reta, despite there being no appetite suppression and the food noise continuing? That’s surprising to hear.

How would you compare the two for actual fat loss — did Reta come out ahead of tirz, or was it about the same? And would you say the missing appetite suppression was the biggest factor behind going back?

One more thing: after reaching 8mg Reta and then returning straight to 5mg tirz, did the appetite suppression and quieter food noise return fairly fast? Did you pick up on any differences in side effects, energy levels, or general wellbeing between the two?

Reta gave me faster weight loss than tirz did, but the food noise and appetite suppression were a real problem for me, which is the reason I went back. Once I returned to tirz, both the appetite suppression and the quieting of food noise kicked in almost immediately. Apart from that appetite and food noise problem, my time on tirz and my time on Reta were basically the same.

Over an 8-week period, I moved from 4mg/week Tirz to 4mg/week Reta, replacing .5mg of Tirz with Reta each week. Nothing went wrong, though I would have halted if problems had appeared. My resting heart rate hasn't risen—it's still 55bpm. Appetite suppression is clearly weaker on Reta. There's a slight skin tingling sensation. At present I'm dropping .5lbs/week with Reta, whereas my weight held steady on Tirz.

The motivation for this change was to see if I could target some persistent visceral fat, which DEXA and my bio-impedence scale indicate is present. So far, no noticeable difference there. Reta might be better for losing weight, but at this point I'm leaning toward returning to Tirz for maintenance. I'll continue evaluating Reta for roughly another 6 months. Since I have solid stockpiles of both Tirz and Reta, I might rotate them every 6 months or annually, as I intend to stay on one of them long-term.

For a meaningful reply, you'll need to share details: your beginning, current, and goal weights, your age, your height, plus how long you've been taking tirz and at what dose. Also mention any side effects at your present dose. The main solid rationale for combining them below maximum doses is to adjust the receptor-effect/side-effect balance—if side effects are causing trouble. Otherwise, when you're after stronger outcomes such as appetite suppression or faster weight loss, raising the dose tends to be the easier route. If you've already dropped 50 kilos and have spent a year on max doses, that's a completely different scenario.

My thinking matches that. Having dropped more than 120 lbs within a single year on Tirz at a maximum of 5MG, I now want to stack the two in order to cut down visceral fat a little using Reta.

As I picture it, I would lower Tirz from 5MG down to 4,5 MG and inject 0.5mg of Reta to begin with. Is it possible to inject both on one day, or would it be preferable to do Tirz on Saturday and then Reta on Sunday?

What worries me, though, is that I respond very sensitively to GLP1´S, and prior to starting I had Tachykardie with my HR Increase always sitting over 90-100. After 1 year on Tirz it now runs at 50-55 bpm. So I am somewhat afraid that beginning Reta could bring my Tachykardie back.

Therefore, what would be the optimal Starter Dosage for Reta to keep the risk of raising my HR as low as possible? I only need Reta for shrinking what is left of my visceral Fat Depot.

Losing 120lbs over 12 months with Tirz is a great outcome. Nice work!

Since your time on Tirz has stretched past a year, a 0.5mg Reta dose probably won't move the needle much.

If you'd rather, stepping up by 1mg each time is perfectly doable.

How much more weight you're aiming to drop will determine whether stacking the two makes more sense than a full switch.
