Hello everyone — this is my very first time posting, and I'm glad to be here.

My wife and I have both been having a hard time with our weight, and we're hoping to make this change as a team.

I'm excited to chat with all of you.

Hello, I wanted to expand on what I wrote in my first post. I threw that together pretty quickly, which explains why nobody responded. Not sure anyone will come across this, but I'd like to open up a bit more about myself in case it rings a bell for someone.

My reason for being here is to drop pounds alongside my wife. Yeah, I realize that's the shared goal of everyone on this forum, probably. I work in medicine, though I'm not a physician. Even so, my wife depends on me to take care of this kind of thing, and I'm doing my best to keep us—especially her—out of harm's way and in good health.

Once we had our kids, she found it hard to shed the weight. To me she's as beautiful as ever, but she's grown to dislike her own body, and that really hurts me. I don't want her carrying that feeling around anymore. Perhaps this will do some good. I'm not sure.

I've also got my own weight to deal with. It's strange—I can stay so disciplined about so many parts of my life, yet I can't seem to manage what goes into my mouth. I'd like my wife to find me attractive (even though she insists she already does), and I also want our little ones to look at their dad and see someone in shape. Nothing extreme, but I'd rather they didn't have a fat father.

I feel like I ought to be able to power through this and simply diet the way a regular person would, but it's been a fight for years at this point. I suppose I'm finally ready to set my pride aside and accept some assistance.

My hope is that I can discover that here, for the two of us.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Appreciate you posting this! Glad to be the 1st person to respond.

Doing it together with your wife and being a role model for your kids — those are strong reasons to take this on. And don’t underestimate yourself. Lots of people who are disciplined and successful still deal with weight, and turning to tools that can assist is nothing to be ashamed of.

thinking it through carefully and prioritizing safety is the right approach - that’s partly why i’ve chosen to become part of this community, to learn and stay as safe as I can. Best wishes to you and your wife on this journey

Hey there, and welcome aboard! My own path began a few months back, and things have gone well up to now. I haven't stepped on a scale lately, though I have shed some pounds thanks to help. Normally I steer clear of outside help, figuring diet and exercise would do the trick on their own — yet that just wasn't happening for me. Between the kids, the job, stress, and getting older, I ended up looking into all of this. It's a journey, sure, but a positive one. Best of luck to the two of you!
