Hey all — happy to have found this place.

I’m a guy in his mid-40s, hovering around 250 lbs, and I’m about to begin my retatrutide experience. Before committing, I spent several months digging into the literature, hearing from researchers, and figuring out the mechanisms behind these drugs. Once I’d gone deep enough down that rabbit hole, I figured it was time to find out what it does for me firsthand.

Some context:

Activity and lifting have always been part of my routine, yet my weight has refused to budge for years now. Many others probably relate — I can drop pounds with strict discipline, only to watch them return. The “set point” idea from the research struck a chord with me and shed light on why this struggle keeps repeating.

Scale weight alone isn’t my target — body composition and metabolic health over the long haul are. My plan is a low, gradual dosing approach, high protein intake, and continued resistance training to hold onto as much muscle as I can.

Supplies are already in hand, and my Reta is on its way, so I’m currently in that “final days before kickoff” stretch. A very cautious starting dose and slow titration are likely, with close attention to my body’s reactions.

A few specific things I’m hoping to learn from you all:

  • Basics: for injections, is a full stomach, an empty stomach, or something in between preferable?
  • Strategies people use to keep muscle while shedding fat
  • Stories from those who began at very low doses
  • Did anyone see shifts in food noise / appetite / food preferences?
  • What did progress look like during the first 4–8 weeks
Being a data nerd, I’ll probably log weight, body comp, and subjective feelings as I go, and I’m glad to post updates if anyone finds that useful.

Excited to pick up knowledge from all of you.

from what I can tell, lifting weights matters a lot for preserving muscle when taking reta
