INTRO Intro + sugar and chocolate cravings

Hi everyone. I'm a 36 year old guy, and my goal is to drop 150lbs. Obesity doesn't run in my family. The trouble started with postural problems that began in my mid twenties and threw my nervous system out of whack, which in turn messed with my hormones. I believe my cortisol got too high and my beneficial hormones got too low, and over a 2 year stretch I went from 220lbs at 6'2 up to 350.

Yoga and walking are things I have the energy for, so I do them. Cardio and weight lifting are off the table, though, since they make the right side dominance from my pelvis and rib cage problems worse.

A PT I came across through Reddit, who does virtual sessions from another country, told me that without shedding the weight first, we won't get very far. I completely agree with that. It's hard to make lasting changes to stance and loading when you're a giant blob.

As for chocolate and sugar.. every time I exercise (yoga or long walks), the following day the chocolate cravings hit so hard they feel like physical drug withdrawal. Without going into why that happens biologically, I'm aware tirzepatide will curb those cravings, but will Retatrutide do the same?
That took real courage and honesty — I'm so proud of you. Putting in the effort, staying committed, and backing it with a GLP1 is going to bring results!! And as an extra perk, there's a whole crew of brilliant people in this space who are rooting for you, so you'll pick up plenty along the way!!

Respect for stepping up, mate!

I struggle with sugar cravings just as badly. Whether placebo is playing a part, I can't say, but taking glutamine powder has been incredible for my cravin..no, incredible for me, and absolute misery for those cravings. Over the past week I haven't touched a single sugary treat. Never happened before in my life. And yes, you really need resistance bands. Mine are from Rogue fitness and I've relied on them for years. Pick up something comparable and I used to weigh exactly the same. 6"2, 350lbs.
I've come across that same point regarding glutamine powder in other places. Are you using L-glutamine, or is it plain glutamine?
I take L-glutamine together with my whey protein shake.
Is there a specific one that you're into?
As far as glutamine goes, no, not particularly. Right now I take Nutricost glutamine. Whey protein is a different story — I'm picky about that one.

Chocolate on its own is one of the toughest cravings to beat! I've come across the idea that a specific chocolate craving could point to low magnesium, since cocoa contains plenty of it. Once I began paying closer attention, magnesium supplements worked really well for me, so results will differ -- still, adding a magnesium vitamin to your daily routine probably won't do any harm.

Beyond that, best of luck to you! I started at 350 and my goal is under 200 too, so we're walking that path together!

I'm not really familiar with tirz, but reta completely killed my sweet cravings!

I've been on reta for 3 weeks now, taking a really low dose, and it's been a huge help for my sugar cravings. I do still have sweets, but stopping after 1 piece is no problem. Reta works even better when you include healthy carbs such as oatmeal, whole grains, and sweet potatoes. After your workouts, try to get a solid amount of protein in and see whether that makes a difference. Welcome to the forum!
