37, self-employed, which means my schedule is entirely my own. That sounds great until you realise nobody else is going to make you eat properly or show up to train. So I’ve ended up building systems for myself instead of relying on discipline: protocol set in advance, calorie targets fixed, supplement stack fixed, a lot of liquid meals so there are as few daily decisions as possible. It’s boring by design, and boring is the only thing that has ever worked for me long term.
Weight has been the recurring theme for most of my adult life the usual cycle of getting in shape, losing focus during a busy stretch of work, and starting over a year later heavier than before. What changed recently is that I stopped treating it as a willpower problem.
I’m currently four weeks into reta and about 10kg down, with no measurable loss in muscle mass so far. I train four days a week and I’m getting bloodtests done every four weeks, because going into something like this without data seemed like a bad idea. Honestly, the results so far are amazing, it’s the first time appetite hasn’t been something I have to actively fight and I’m feeling great.
Which is exactly why I want to accelerate and learn. I’d rather understand what’s actually happening in my body than keep going purely on momentum and good numbers on the scale. So I’m mostly here to read, there’s clearly a lot of accumulated experience in this place, and four weeks of personal results doesn’t make me knowledgeable about anything.
If anyone else here is combining this with serious lifting, or is at a similar early stage, I’d be glad to hear how it’s going for you. I track everything anyway, so I’m happy to share my own numbers as things progress.
Thanks for having me.
