Hi everyone! My name is John, and I’m glad to be here. I’ve been reading and learning about GLP-1 medications for quite a while, and I’m looking forward to being part of a community where people can openly share their real world experiences both the successes and the challenges.

My weight-loss journey has been a long one. At my highest I was around 262 pounds, and I started using retatrutide on August 29, 2025. I took my time titrating and eventually worked my way up to 8 mg. The results have been pretty remarkable for me, but I’ve also experienced the plateaus and changes in appetite suppression that I’m sure many people here can relate to. I’ve learned that simply increasing the dose isn’t necessarily the answer.

Along the way, I’ve become very interested in understanding why these medications work—not just the number on the scale. I’m interested in metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, nutrition, maintaining muscle, exercise, and figuring out how to make the results sustainable long term. I generally focus on higher-protein, lower carb eating and have been working on becoming more consistent with walking and exercise.

One of the biggest things I hope to get from this community is learning from other people's experiences. There’s a big difference between reading clinical information and hearing from people who have actually lived through the weight loss, stalls, side effects, dose adjustments, and maintenance.

I’m also happy to share what I’ve learned from my own journey when it might help someone else. I certainly don't have all the answers, which is one of the reasons I'm here.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and continuing to learn!

You got up to 8 mg? How long did that take? I'm about to do my first buy and I'm trying to see how long it would last me. If I don't get past 4 mg a week, it should last me over a year.

It probably took me 6 months. I plan on staying at 4mg until I reach my goal of about 25 more pounds.

Yes! You get it!

Why so many people think that going to max dose in the shortest time possible is the answer, confounds me. By adding in "metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, nutrition, maintaining muscle, exercise, and figuring out how to make the results sustainable long term" you are already ahead of many on this forum.

Way too many people expect the magic GLP to do all the work. Unlike some, I don't want or expect to stay at max GLP dose for the rest of my life. My worst case expectation is that I end up cycling low dose GLP for maintenance.

I see from your introduction post that you have followed a very similar path to mine. I went from insulin resistance to metabolic dysfunction to a fight to regain my life. The difference is that I followed the Tirz path. Best of luck to you.
