Filters in UK/EU

I keep coming across conflicting details. A YouTube clip showed a person using a 4mm filter on a 3ml vial. But on this forum, the claim is that 1.5ml is the ceiling?
The maker's recommendations fall somewhere between 1.5-2ml. If you choose to force additional liquid through, is that possible? Absolutely, it can be done. However, as @boytres pointed out in his/her great earlier post within this thread, doing so carries certain dangers.

For my part, I simply stick with 13mm filters across the board, so I don't have to purchase several different sizes. A number of people prefer 4mm filters, while plenty of others simply can't be bothered with them.

Ultimately, whether you decide to use them and the volume of liquid you push through is completely your call. Nobody has ever faced arrest for ignoring manufacturer guidelines. 😂
*His, then. 😁

@Wenjo, any success on your end with those sterile vials?
In the UK, sterile vials are the only item I've had trouble locating. A handful of vendors do carry them, but the prices are absurdly high. I even thought about bringing them in from the US, yet the postage costs are ridiculous.

I've also explored the idea of getting an autoclave and doing the sterilisation on my own haha

Nope, still nothing. Trusted suppliers appear scarce. When it comes to Alibaba vendors I don't recognize, I'm not convinced they'd truly deliver sterile items 🤷‍♂️

I’ve gotten Biomed Solutions vials off Amazon and never ran into problems, though I’m not fully convinced they’re sterile. These days I tend to stick with pen cartridges, since I know those are sterile, rather than using vials. They can hold as much as 3ml, and even when I’m not putting them in a pen, drawing from them works just like a vial—maybe even more convenient.

I recently picked up a batch of these.

Sterile Vials 10ml
Golyath is a name I'd run into before too. KS-tek vials are among the products they carry. Over on Amazon, those exact vials go for £16.49, whereas Golyath lists them at £19.99. Sure, the gap isn't huge, but when you're picking up a lot of vials, that extra cost builds up quickly.

Opinions on KS-tek vials seem to be all over the place, yet unless we test them ourselves, any vial without ISO certification is a gamble—so it's impossible to claim one brand is superior to another!

I’m with you on that. Still, deciding to skip filtering just because a vial might not be sterile doesn’t really follow, imo.

My preference is to filter while assuming the vial is sterile, so that the finished solution stays clear of bacteria and contaminants. If I don’t filter into a sterile vial, I could introduce contaminants and make the final product unsterile.

In the end, I filter on the basis that the vial is sterile, which gives me some peace of mind even if sterility can’t be guaranteed. I suppose it’s a bit like a safety net…I hope that makes sense.
