Filtering is giving me trouble

No — that needle would be contaminated. I'm probably using too large a gauge as well. Which syringes are you working with?

21 gauge.

After drawing it up and attaching the filter, I switch to a fresh needle to push the filtered Reta out — so shouldn't that needle be clean?

What's the reason for this, and what's your plan for extracting the filtered reconstituted Reta from the vial? Syringes don't cost much—toss that syringe, needle and filter. Do you have standard syringes on hand?
