Like any drug that people really want, like opiates or cocaine or GLP's, a black market will develop if possible and the existing market if there is one, does not work for them or excludes them. To me GLP drugs are more or less life saving necessities, but I cannot afford anything other than low dose ozempic that makes me feel awful. The demand for weight loss drugs that actually work is absolutely enormous, and the vast majority cannot afford them at retail prices. And the drug companies selling them are not going to drop their prices until they are forced to by large scale government bargaining or new products competing against them. Their primary obligation is to maximise shareholder return, not improve public health.
The difference between GLP drugs and the more addictive ones, is that overall the health consequences of the grey and black market supply of them is probably still significantly beneficial, even despite all the unintentional overdoses, mistakes, mislabelled and contaminated peptides etc. The improvement in quality of life and prevention of thousands of cases of diabetes and heart attacks easily outweigh those adverse effects.
