Hi everyone. I just managed to get my Alipay account working through the app.

Linking my debit card finally went through, but only after I had to ring my bank so they would lift the block. My location is the USA.

I'm attempting to buy from a supplier based in CN.

I tried a test transfer of 150 RMB. From what I understand, that comes to $10.

Alipay then flagged it as fraud.

A choice to appeal showed up.

But they want several documents, including the front and back of the debit card, plus photo ID and a passport, as far as I can tell.

When it comes to Crypto, I'm clueless. Clearly, and also a dummy with Alipay.

Does anyone have advice for me?

Best to just leave that one alone.
Thanks for getting back to me. When you say that, are you telling me to drop the vendor, or to drop Alipay?
Handing over your full banking details together with your ID is something I wouldn't do. From the sound of it, all that's missing is your SSN, and then your identity would be completely exposed.

I know some folks have had to provide a passport when using Alipay, though I don't know what else might be required.

Is there anyone who happens to know whether the same paperwork is needed when setting up Exodus with MoonPay/BlockChain/XO? I went looking for that, but it appears my debit card (or possibly Visa) won’t let me link the card. It looks like it begins to process, then a message appears saying it was not accepted. Yet whenever I contact my bank, they say my card has no restriction on it.

I’m beginning to think I may simply have to keep paying retail! 😂

Thanks to everyone for your feedback.

Simply get Cash App and purchase Bitcoin through it. Whether I needed to provide my license, I can't recall, though I did have to for Coinbase, Kraken, and Trust Wallet.

For people located in the US, Cash App is easily the simplest and handiest option.

That's useful information. Having a fallback option seems wise for everyone nowadays.

In the past, overseas wholesalers accepted PayPal, Western Union and Alipay. However, because so many buyers filed charge backs, now they accept only crypto, and occasionally alipay. A handful of bad actors wrecked it for everyone. 🤦

Still, after you get the hang of it, the rest is a breeze! 🙂

When I made my initial crypto transfer, that was likely the most anxious moment of my entire life, and I've been through some serious stuff. The thought of losing so many people I care about was just too much for me. I really LOVE my Benjamins.

That sense of doubt about whether the seller can be trusted, the awareness that no refund exists, and the unknown wait for the product to arrive.

I'd guess most of us went through the same thing. 🤣

Thanks. With Cashapp, is it possible to send Bitcoin straight to the vendor, or is moving it into a wallet first required before forwarding it to the vendor?

I get that these safeguards exist to keep me safe. I only wish it were simpler for me to pick up. I’ll manage it eventually! 🙂

Update: since my passport has expired, Alipay is off the table for me.

Here's what I'm doing now:::

I opened a Cash App account. I went through the process of scanning my Drivers License ID plus a Facial scan. According to them, approval could take as long as 10 days before I hear back.

Should it go through, my next step is to purchase BTC, move it into either Exodus or Blue Wallet, and from there pay the CN vendor.

Of course, this might not work out either…

Hopefully this thread can be useful to other “old school” folks like me who are figuring out how to handle all of this.

That approach is reliable, and I've gone with it multiple times.

No transfer needed.

You can simply send the BTC straight from cashapp over to the seller.

Occasionally, because of "potential scams" (nothing to worry about there), the transaction will get rejected or denied. Options are to keep retrying, or route it through coinbase/trust wallet/kraken and then send it onward. My gripe with that route: you end up handing over your front/back license ID and maybe more, and each time personal details go to yet another site, that's just more exposure to ID fraud.

Cashapp only, if you can. I sometimes order from thepeplair.com or ⚠️Vendor Name Removed for Shilling⚠️ since those take credit card, and despite being US resellers, they sit on the cheaper end versus the other 99% of resellers out there.

A vendor I use still takes Alipay...that problem you're talking about hasn't happened to me, though it's been roughly 6 weeks since my last order from her.

Crypto is quite simple once you get the hang of it, just a bit intimidating in the beginning.

Indeed, MoonPay and Blockchain both ask for ID photos.

Alright, I'll give it a shot. Appreciate it!

Exodus gave me the exact same trouble. Running my own company, I've never once had a card declined through Visa or Mastercard. When I reached out to Exodus support, they claimed Ramp Network was the one blocking it. Their suggestion was to either get in touch with Ramp Network's team or switch to a different third-party API provider for purchases. Honestly, jumping through those hoops and burning precious time just to access my own funds—PLEASE??

So I went ahead and installed BYBIT. Verification wrapped up inside 24 hours, and after that I could buy using creditcards, Paypal or banktransfer. Paypal charges nothing. The others, well, that's a different story. The only catch: I'm free to purchase whatever coins I like, but for the first 3 days they can't be used for payments. Whether other wallets operate the same way, I have no idea.

I told Exodus bye bye! Wiped my account, back-up and every bit of personal data. Hope I never cross paths with them again!

Thanks, that did the trick. I ended up moving the funds to a separate wallet. Much appreciated!
