A few weeks of lurking have gone by while I checked out the forums, and how helpful everyone is has been a pleasant surprise.

Canadian, middle-aged, and overweight since university days. A sedentary job only added to it.

The old-school doctor I had - modern therapies weren't something he believed in - simply said eat less and work out more. Staying on track always left me feeling I wasn't good enough at it. Yo-yoing happened many, many times without any long-term success.

Retirement took that old doctor, so a new one had to be found - someone more recently graduated, doggedly evidence-based and well-versed on new therapies.

The labs that came back were pretty bad - prediabetic, insulin resistance, kidney failure, fatty liver, cholesterol issues, etc - the usual metabolic syndrome stuff.

Mounjaro was prescribed by the new doc right away, and despite the cost it has worked like magic. Hope that this is a genuinely durable way to lose weight and keep it off is something I'm feeling for the first time.

Learning more here and getting healthier is what I'm looking forward to!
