Hi all!

I'm 45 and live in the Netherlands. Weight has been a struggle since I was 4 (that's when I first saw a dietitian) up until about 12 years ago, when I had a gastric bypass and dropped roughly 50kg.

Research on reta in people who've had a gastric bypass is scarce so far, so I thought I'd broaden my search and look for more anecdotal evidence that it's safe.

I first heard about reta in posts about reta use and MCAS. Seeing that pre-menopause is gradually changing my body (BMI is 31 now, was 25 at my lowest, and started near 44), I decided it was worth reading up on the options.

My biggest weight-loss frustration is that, because of the bypass, my daily intake has been only 1500 to 1800 kcal for years. Sadly, no doctor warned me beforehand that your body can adapt to the deficit after a gastric bypass, which makes losing weight hard.

Looking forward to reading and learning!

Welcome! It's great that you've come across a community packed with so much useful information.

When it comes to reta in people who've had gastric bypass, I can't offer any personal experience. However, I did have one GB patient on Sema who, after titrating up to 1.7 mg, dealt with severe constipation that progressed to impaction. She came very close to being hospitalized for an intestinal blockage.

My sense is that tirz and reta are a bit safer for GB patients, though I'd still recommend beginning at a very low dose and titrating up more slowly than usual. Also, pay close attention to hydration and fiber intake.

After she had stayed stable for roughly a year without glp-1's, she was able to restart tirz.

Thank you!

In general, I believe reta is likely safe, though I had my pouch and anastomosis examined first. I had come across information suggesting that delayed food transit can leave food sitting on the anastomosis, potentially leading to irritation, infection and ulcurs in that area — something I have not seen mentioned by other GBP users.
